AN AMERICAN FAMILY (1973) has been very hard to find for the 5 decades since the original reality show aired on PBS. Even the Library of Congress AV room said they didn't have it when I asked there last summer. Music rights supposedly the main issue. Hooray that all episodes are suddenly on YouTube:

There's also room for sponsor outreach. This is not really my scene locally, but I do know a parent of a former preschool classmate w/ whom I chat sometimes where this is his literal job. +I have an old friend in L.A who does this for #OtisCollege. So I imagine I'll reach out to them; beats inaction

…maybe raising some funds via their raffle, which has a long list of legit prizes & which a person need not be present to win. There's an incentive for the kid to sell tickets, & by extension an incentive for her parent to test out the usefulness of social-media assistance; I've resisted in the past

Same goes for posts on Instagram & via its Snapchat-ripoff "stories." I mean, I like that it's a sign that Facebook is likely dying like MTV as a dominant cultural force seems to have died. But it's too bad in moments like this, not so much for getting the word out about the local event as for…

Sadly that clear & present enshittification on Facebook—maybe trying to steer users to Threads, but fuck that noise—along with #Fuckerberg showing up at Trump's Nazi rally inauguration to confirm every intuition you've ever had about his being a total creep makes posts there weird & almost pointless

I'll likely post about this on Meta. Friends know me there, largely for having gotten kicked off Facebook in `07 (mistaken for a bot), then reappearing 6个月后 w/ a new profile associated w/ [email protected]—still a desired goal. So far unsuccessful if not counting suicide via #enshittification

Anyway, it's a good time for anyone in the 805 who is not previously booked for all of the 11am-4pm block on what this year will be a 25-hour #DayOfTheDead due to the #TimeChange in the wee hours that morning. $$ put into the school is showing clear returns on investment.

3 weeks from today, my kid's school hosts their #DiaDeLosMuertos community fair. This is traditionally her dual-language immersion school's biggest fundraiser of the year. Last year—for the 1st time in the 25 years it's existed—the school was recognized as 1 of the best of its kind in California.

Fuck 3-hour movies in general, but on the other hand the only way I'm really watching such a thing in one go w/o any interruption is at the theater. It's unclear if this is part of the reason why, but this 6:30pm screening had not many seats remaining at 6pm. The Vista had sell-outs days in advance.
A crappy capture of the selection of seats I was given when purchasing a ticket for a 6:30 screening at 6pm. I believe there had also been a 5:35pm screening, it bears mentioning, and others staggered like that at about 1-hour intervals throughout the day into night.

I finally saw ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER (2025), more or less w/o having been exposed to any spoilers, & almost entirely due to very positive word-of-mouth. This led to my finally testing out the spoiler-warning system on Letterboxd, maybe the killer feature of #boxd for me. Proof of concept in 7¶:

I have it from serious sources that Trump is about to announce a one-million percent tariff on inflatable frog costumes.

…might let the turn-off become a tune-out situation. I mentioned Aung San Suu Kyi's peace prize, & how we might do well to be wary of what replaces the current horrors.

Self-rebuttal: VE is in an emergency under Maduro. International attention now cast in that direction is good. Nuance can follow.

Talked w/ a dear & long-displaced Venezuelan friend on this topic today, & he is a bit lacking in nuance from a more informed other side. I pointed out that unless he addresses how it's a major turnoff that she can be (willingly) construed as a proxy for Trump, we gringos lacking unlimited bandwidth

The star-studded production wrapped its Budapest filming months ago, & I still have near-limitless hopes for it—so on some level, it can't but disappoint!
前天 I found myself thinking about the final ⅓ of Östlund's earlier film, TRIANGLE OF SADNESS, which I'm glad exists. #TheEntertainmentSystemIsDown

Former ICE Chief of Staff saying the obvious: this is crisis construction. 3,000 FBI agents and 14,000 others have been pulled from counterterror and public safety work to stage political raids for the cameras. Federal agents aren’t protecting Americans, they’re being used as props.

Featured on this new YouTube channel is a professionally-shot/edited/soundtracked 12-episode account of their recent Dutch-centric European tour, in 8/2025. So I'll be watching all the parts of this series in advance of catching up with them in #Canada next month. #Hanggai #Toronto #Montréal #Ottawa

Graham Annable on Goodreads: www.goodreads.com/author/list/...

Weirdly not listed is his most recent, seemingly aimed at the youngest audience to date, HIDE & SEEK WITH CLYDE & MONIQUE: CLYDE IN PLAIN SIGHT: www.goodreads.com/book/show/21...

^^uh oh, may be a multiple profile situation, messy :-|
Published under the literal banner of I CAN READ! COMICS—where it's rated at LEVEL 2 challenge-wise—it's HIDE & SEEK WITH CLYDE & MONIQUE: CLYDE IN PLAIN SIGHT. To be more precise, it's actually just the cover of that book, which was published in June of this year.

Any other suggestions for songs w/in the genre described, whether an orchestral fairy tale or just a song wherein there's a sort of story involving one or more characters represented by a particular musical instrument? Not the best example👇🏻, but I ♥️ it & think it adds value; 👋🏻 @grickle.bsky.social

I have long loved the whole notion of orchestral fairy tales, or most any song wherein an instrument stands in for a character. Chances are we've watched this version before too, tho I've clearly forgotten if so. We did miss a local staging of it at the Lobero this summer, which smarted at the time.

We got on the topic of this existing via her "correcting" my reference to it in a conversation about a character getting swallowed by a wolf & later rescued—she offered that I was meaning to reference Little Red Riding Hood, natch. I've definitely played the Bowie narrated version for her before 1/X
