A symbol in Paris : an old "sidewalk bike lane" dating back more than 25 years has just been erased (replaced by a shared bus lane), and its former entrance is now blocked by a barrier with a longtail family bike, a use that no one could have imagined would take off so much even just 10 years ago.

The implicit assumption that the US Navy, which has not managed to successfully design a frigate in 30 years, has lessons to give to the Italian or French navies is highly amusing.
A lot of people in Italian and French MIC were at times baffled by demands that in their eyes did not substantially contribute to survivability beyond what the Europeans already had with FREMM

I remember a few months ago users of one of these chatbot slop companies, can't remember which, were complaining on reddit about their AI girlfriends abruptly ending conversations.

And *then* it turned out the company had simply made a list of words like "suffocate" and "stab" to trigger that.

POV Xi Jinping realising he doesn't need to pay per diems to dozens of plain clothes goons stalking BBC reporters in China, he can simply threaten to sue the broadcaster for a billion dollars and cancel all negative coverage.

When Kash Patel was appointed, it freaked me out as much as any appointment. It was clear his goal was to persecute Trump's political opponents by any means necessary.

But, seeing what a total nincompoop he is, I will almost miss him. He's become my favorite incompetent in the whole regime.

Benny staged a photo of what he said were 11 "rioters" who were arrested. Bovino tackled one of them for...nothing.

Only they weren't arrested. They were held all day, asked some Qs, then dropped off at a gas (petrol) station nearby.

These people don't show up on list of people arrested that day.

Ask: why is all this wildly irregular diplomacy suddenly happening now, "aggressively", "24/7"? Kushner has no official role in US foreign policy at all. He swore he would play no role; he has massive conflicts of interest. Driscoll is way out of his lane. Someone is desperate for a ceasefire. 7/

Unlike the earlier Axios reporting on Kushner/Witkoff, FT uses direct quotes that show how irregular this is. Driscoll's outreach is new, separate from the State Dept, and "aggressive". The takeaway: Putin, out of cash to pay his soldiers, is desperate for a ceasefire and calling all his helpers. 6/

Ukraine relations get even more chaotic. Two factions - Kushner/Witkoff and Vance/Driscoll - are both freelancing to set US policy: cutting out the State Dept, pushing Ukraine to surrender, then leaking to press to claim they are official. Why? Putin is desperate and has called in his assets. A 🧵 1/

"Is the president openly monetizing the presidency?" is functionally equivalent to "Did the sun rise this morning in the East?" or "Does water have both adhesive & cohesive properties?" It is a settled piece of empirical reality based on hundreds, if not thousands, of observed data points.
If you are on BBC live, you know what to do

(I don't even think this statement would be controversial among experts. He's openly monetizing the office and making literally billions of dollars!)
NEWS --> BBC confirms to me that they did edit a line out of historian @rutgerbregman.com's speech. It called Trump "the most openly corrupt president in US history."

BBC also confirms this was done on the advice of lawyers. So Trump's threats worked.

Also the category of "farmer" as an identity category is so easy to exploit. Imart worked for Price Waterhouse Cooper as a Consultant and took over her family's industrial farm. Miss me with the "protect small farmers and cultural traditions like meat" line from a member of the consultant class.

I don't understand what game Macron is playing. So far he has been a good defender of European interests, recognizing that the defence of Ukraine is vital to us, so I hope humouring this insulting "peace plan" as a serious proposal is just diplomacy... Please give us a sign that we are fighting !
After the meeting of the Coaltion of the Willing, Emmanuel Macron announces the creation of a working group to "precisely" finalise the security guarantees for Ukraine.

It will be led by France and the UK and include Turkey and, "for the first time," the United States.
