Thanksgiving in Canada has nothing to do with Columbus!

We are a colonial country with a million things to atone for but Thanksgiving is not one of them.

Our Thanksgiving is timed with the harvest and it's literally just "Be grateful for harvest"

US Imperialism has brain rotted too many of you.

In case you missed it earlier, GoH Kate Heartfield has also created a Can*Con 2025 Starter Pack so you can get inextricably linked with all your favourite Can*Con minds and gestalt consciousnesses!
kateheartfield.com
Speaking of @canconsffh.bsky.social , last year's starter pack for panelists, vendors and volunteeers was popular, so I made a new one for this year. Please tell me if you're on programming or helping out with Can*Con this year and would like to be added, or if you'd like to be removed.

Monster energy drinks glow orange if I remember right. Never drank one again after I learned that.

Fun blacklight facts brought to you by many years of working laser tag: Highlighter glows brilliantly under blacklight even after you wash the visible ink from your skin.

The kids loved my exam seasons because my hands lit up like stars.

best glows: yellow > green > orange > pink.

What else do we got? Would you enjoy ... a Glow Party?

Allllll our bioluminescent friends are gonna get down on Saturday night!

We will break out the Emergency Strategic Can*Con Glow Stick Reserve for this one.
A graphic for the Can*Con Glow Party, 9pm October 18th in the Celtic room. Text: "Glow Party: We've got a dance floor and we're not afraid to use it. Wear your best neon or glow-in-the-dark, grab a drink from the pop-up bar, and shine bright (almost) all night."

well, i mean we *thought* it was a cyst at the time. It ended up being a tumour that looked like a cyst.
thatcalamity.bsky.social
i'm so sorry. I had a similar sized cyst (ovarian though) twenty years ago. It was really uncomfortable by the end, squishing important organs that are NOT jerks and were minding their own business.

"Just Test in Production."

In honor of spooky month, share a 4 word horror story that only someone in your profession would understand

I'll go first: Six page commercial lease.

and then people expect you to always perform at the level you can on a good day... even if you're half a step away from being bedridden.

Ahhh auras. They used to leave me functionally blind for 20 mins, but were a good warning system to take advil before the pain hit.

Thankfully these days I just (?) Get light and noise sensitivity

Wisptober Day 4 - Apple

"You stop reaching for the last apple on the tree, suddenly aware of the small moth-like creature devouring it. They seem to notice you too."

I just love how twisty apple tree branches can be!!

A cover I painted earlier this year for @catrector.com 's upcoming book, Learning to Bleed! 🩸

Comes out March 18th! Relevant links in a post below.

(I feared I wouldn't have anything appropriately spooky to post, but then Cat saved me by doing the reveal today :D)
A painterly illustration of a blonde-haired man embracing a dark brown-haired woman who looks like she's in a vampire frenzy. He looks at her wearing a worried expression, but she doesn't reciprocate, staring at the viewer, eyes glowing red. Book cover of "Learning to Bleed" by Cat Rector.

If "AI" was as valuable as they say it is, they wouldn't be selling it to you. They'd be using it themselves in secret to make the next Minecraft, the next Avatar, the next Hello Kitty and then they'd sell that to you.

They're trying to sell you a sick goose, while pretending it lays golden eggs.

I am tentatively looking for published authors who would be interested in being a part of a second space horror anthology, the sequel, so to speak, to Astrophobia.

go get your queer vampires!
catrector.com
Learning to Bleed comes out March 18th and artist @scherville.com is so deeply talented I can hardly believe it!

This book is the 2nd in a trilogy that explores queerness and trauma through vampire lore, all against the backdrop of an impoverished rural community that has its own monsters 👀

Links⬇️
The cover of Learning to Bleed by Cat Rector, the sequel to Coal Gets In Your Veins. The cover is in the style of a classical painting, with a blush-grey background. In the foreground are two characters locked in a dipping embrace. Spencer, a pale man in a dark blue turtleneck sweater and jeans, with blonde bed-head hair, is holding up another character as she loses control and seems to be falling. His expression is lost and loving as he looks down at her. Laurel is leaning back in his arms, her long brown hair in waves over her back, her face up to the sky as her expression of uncontrolled rage stares upward. Her eyes are red and her mouth is wide open, showing her vampire fangs. A pool of blood soaks into the shoulder of Spencer’s sweater, coming from Laurel’s hand as it hangs above his shoulder. Laurel wears a tank top and red and black plaid. A red mist obscures their legs, making room for the title and author text. The cover artist is Scherville.

Publishing news! I'm beyond thrilled to finally share that my queer southern gothic horror novella—set in 1930s Louisiana about a haunted man, a murdered child, a charismatic bank robber, and a disappearing town—THE BAYOU will be coming out in audiobook from Tantor Media.
Publishers Marketplace deal report for The Bayou by Arden Powell.
Arden Powell's The Bayou, a queer Southern gothic horror in which people start disappearing and a man is reminded of a death from 20 years ago and the mysterious man that haunted his dreams, while also getting tangled up with a charismatic fugitive, to Emily Loughran at Tantor Media, in a nice deal (world English).
