In honor of spooky month, share a 4 word horror story that only someone in your profession would understand

I'll go first: Six page commercial lease.

I’m pretty sure this is also why the OS is so garden-walled. If users had more access to root files and were able to really tinker with their devices, then we’d have media of bad custom GUIs and posts about devices being bricked (more than usual). That’d break that clean and sleek brand aesthetic

I remember reading a few months back that the reason iPads didn’t have a native calculator app until fairly recently was because they struggled to make it look nice, which really highlights how Apple is about aesthetics over function

Everything must be sleek and clean, even at the cost of usability

Having iOS apps flip between windowed and full screen modes when double-tapping near the top of the screen would be great if so many apps didn’t also have tools and menus along the top of the screen.

Seems like a super obvious oversight that I’m guessing was caught in QA and ignored by management

Blessed are the frogs, for they keep making authoritarians look incredibly stupid
Three persons in inflatable frog costumes. One of them is holding a nicely painted sign with two little cartoon frogs holding hands, below the text "FROGS TOGETHER STRONG"

I started with the pine cone, to see where inbetween pbr and handpainted I wanted the rest of the assets

Ah I couldn’t do that so easy. The nature of my day job means a lot of kids come across my profiles.

And for anyone who isn’t a politician or in a position to do any of this, dressing like a frog is the answer

Absolutely. I’ve coupled it all with some home automation and a live tracker to calculate the energy savings based on the current tariffs. It’s like a little scoreboard that gives a small dopamine hit whenever I see it.

I’m pretty sure as we get into November my solar panels alone won’t be enough to keep the house heated, but 9 months a year of almost no grid usage is pretty dang good.

It was expensive, and I had at least a couple electric shocks on the way, but it’s so good.
thatguymike.bsky.social
First world problem but this house is big and has so many radiators and bleed valves, it takes like an hour to repressurise everything ready to have the heating on for the first time since February.

But also fully off-grid heating is so good right now.

I’d assume you were a bot with that kind of take, but only a human can use intelligence as a yard stick while being so grammatically challenged.

DEI consultant entering my office, totally shaken up

“Yo did you know that there are PEOPLE out there? They’re just like, wandering around! There’s girl people and short people and different coloured people it’s insane! We gotta shove this into your game to let everyone else know!”

Ever think about how easy it would be to make a lot of money by just ditching your morals and sense of guilt?

Consider that when you see billionaires. They didn’t get rich by doing things nicely or working hard. They took the easy way (and had the easy start)

Frankfurt Kitchen

#reference #materialreference #buildingreference
Architect Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky revolutionised housework with this fitted kitchen, 10,000 of which were installed across housing projects in Frankfurt, Germany.
By her own admission, Schütte-Lihotzky did not know how to cook. Rather she designed this compact space based on conversations with housewives about their daily work. Features like a pull-out chopping board for food preparation and easy-clean surfaces aimed to make domestic labour more efficient and hygienic.
The V&A collected this kitchen for its Modernism exhibition in 2005, as an example of a successful and influential kitchen from the 1900s.

MAKER:
Margarete (Grete) Schütte-Lihotzky
LOCATION AND DATE:
Frankfurt, Germany. 1926-27
MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES:
Wood, glass, metal, paint, enamel

"DEI consultants" are a classic example of Genre Media Demiurge - a constructed enemy, responsible for everything wrong and corrupted about the work but not responsible for anything you enjoyed.
thatguymike.bsky.social
So does this person really think indie devs are hiring DEI consultants specifically to put women into games?
