We need leaders not in love with money but in love with justice. Not in love with publicity but in love with humanity. Leaders who can subject their particular egos to the pressing urgencies of the great cause of freedom … a time like this demands great leaders.

And I'll bet Melania, when she was counting out Don's bedtime pills gave old boy a little acetaminophen (TYLENOL®) to take the edge off the arm ache.

The Trump administration has been spreading anti-vaccine propaganda for months. Tonight, Trump's physician announced he just received a flu shot and a COVID booster.

Is there such a thing as a 14th inning stretch?

“You don’t look sick” Thanks that’s the goal. But here is what you don’t see. I cancel plans, I rest for hours after a shower, I forget basic words mid sentence, I grieve a version of myself barely remember, fight everyday against a body that doesn’t cooperate. It is not just tired. It is chronic illness.

At least it is nice outside. What a botheration.

Due to a power failure no trains are currently running through downtown. The Calgary Fire Department showed up to help someone in a mobility scooter get off a train car. Mounted Calgary Police officers were walking by as well. Happy Friday.

So Myles McDougall, the Minister of Advanced Education who has opined quite extensively on the lives & values of Black people, in a highly racist fashion, is ready to implement Jack Mintz's views on DEI?

Jack is a U of C diversity hire - his masters is from Queen's.

Once the youngest head of government in the world, Sanna Martin, as Prime Minister of Finland, pushed through ambitious policy programs, including extended family leave and free child care. But she was also intent on living like someone her age.
The Prime Minister Who Tried to Have a Life Outside the Office
As the thirtysomething leader of Finland, Sanna Marin pursued an ambitious policy agenda. The press focussed on her nights out and how she paid for breakfast.

Literacy is a given at this point. I need to see how you think, watch how you develop & consider alternatives, how & to whom you listen & eventually how you arrive at a decision. All good to grab a statistic off the page, but show me how well you use the information about an issue in my community.

💯 If you are a candidate for councillor, I want to understand how you think, on your own, when confronted with an issue you haven't prepared for or your party hasn't prepared for that impacts me or my community. I'm testing if you're future-fit, broadly capable, and a thoughtful person.

As choral singers, we're taught to listen to each other to get through difficult parts. The amens in Sir John Rutter's "The Lord Bless You and Keep You" cause me to stop listening and count intensely lest I miss an entry (particularly with all the tenors absent from choir practice tonight). 🎶🎼🎵

Black women straight up have to quote and lean on scripture (Isaiah 54:17) to navigate the weaponization of every system against them by the US government these days. Lawd Jesus.

That's COVID-19 vaccination no. 12 in the arm & an influenza shot too. 💥 I ask for the children's bandages because if I'm going to look ridiculous with bandages on my arm, I'd rather they not be Caucasian flesh tone. For Danielle, the registered nurse who administered the vaccinations, bless you.💉

Somehow I'm getting text messages from the Sonya Sharp campaign?! I have never supported anyone in that camp. Strange. I responded to the text with reasons. I have an entire list that I haven't shared here, but trust me, no member of Sonya Sharp's party, Communities First, will receive my vote. 🗳
A text message from the Sonya Sharp campaign asking for my vote. I said no.

In Calgary we also have public policy miracles that occur exclusively during the Calgary Stampede. My favourite? Calgary Transit is able to operate the CTrain 24-hours during the 10 days of the festival. The transit Gods can't do it on the other 355 days of the year in Calgary. It's a marvel!
Calgary Transit service

CTrain service runs before, during and after the parade. All downtown CTrain stations are within one block of the parade route.

Bus route detours become effective at 7 a.m. Transit service is adjusted on Parade Day, check the website for details.

24-hour CTrain service begins the evening of Thursday, July 3 and ends the morning of Monday, July 14.

For more information on Transit during the Stampede, visit Calgary Transit’s Stampede 101 webpage.

@patriciatreble.bsky.social, we think alike. IMO, in Calgary, every city councillor + the mayor (with security) should have to take transit at a minimum once per week from their residence in the ward to work (i.e.: City Hall) & home. We would immediately have improved transit if they used it. 🚌🚉
