I know this is a toughie for republicans like Suarez and reactionary centrists like Harrell, but the difference between individual citizens wearing masks and agents of the state wearing masks is that citizens are not required to identify themselves but agents of the state are.

Huge applause at Suarez' question about whether Harrell will require protesters to take off their masks like he wants to make ICE take off their masks

The SpEd system in this country is set up in a way that families know they're entitled to certain things but also know they have to fight tooth and nail to get what they deserve.

They're tenacious experienced fighters who'll do anything for their kids. These assholes just sucker punched them all.

I’ve been saying this too! Which is why I find @wadems.org’s absolute cowardice on education funding and policy in WA so damn perplexing.

I've said it before and again and I'll say it again and after: Dems and Inds should be running on education in every election.
Education is a Winning Issue for Democrats
Dems' popular policies are winners up and down the ticket

9 out of 10 US students -- roughly 50 million children -- attend public schools.

Despite RW efforts to frame their efforts as for parents ("parents' rights," "choice"), efforts to defund, deform. amd debilitate public schools is a broadscale attack on children and future generations.
Five Ways the Department of Education Is Upending Public Schools
The Trump administration has made a rapid succession of hires and decisions at the Department of Education that could spur profound changes in how schools operate and children learn. Here’s what to kn...

I came here first this morning to see who won. It’s more fun to see you all’s reactions than read about it in the paper!

I watched a bunch of the game from a pub in Andover, MA, but didn’t manage to stay awake. Congratulations Mariners!

God I wish the city and the school district coordinated on just about…anything.

♿️ADA curb paint wars: school edition💅

You may recall I formed a committee last year to improve traffic safety near my kid's school. We learned a lot, including that panting curbs can be done by volunteers, like for loading zones 🧵

This tension has been very evident in Seattle School Board politics as well. Do we set goals based on race or on class? Who gets to decide whether a cop returns to Garfield? All these questions seem to center around who gets to say they represent Seattle’s Black Community.

Who do we mean when we say “Black Seattle”?

This mayoral race isn’t about personalities—it’s about whether symbolism becomes substance. What do “seats at the table” mean if the rest of us go hungry?

COLUMN | What This Mayoral Election Owes 'Black Seattle'
From City Hall to the Central District, Seattle's mayoral race raises deeper questions: Who speaks for "Black Seattle," and what does real representation look like beyond the ballot? Marcus Harrison G...

I was talking to my Suburban friend about how this type of thing is made impossible there because it’s often a long driveway to a school that’s like in the middle of a field. Elementary schools in particular should be embedded in the communities they serve!

What accounts here on Bluesky are good for following what’s happening in Portland? I prefer people who are actually Portlanders than national folks covering it.

This morning, I sat on the McClure “school street” and counted cars violating the closure during the 30 minutes before the first bell. There were 16, about one every two minutes.

They rip the fuck up of sidewalks/roads, unfortunately, and their tall spreading branches are not a great mix with power lines. I’m absolutely in love with the ones in front of Greenwood Elementary though. Some friends live a few blocks over and have a spectacular one as a street tree.
