I don’t know, but as a crow-loving cyclist, I love the art!

I was talking to my Suburban friend about how this type of thing is made impossible there because it’s often a long driveway to a school that’s like in the middle of a field. Elementary schools in particular should be embedded in the communities they serve!

What accounts here on Bluesky are good for following what’s happening in Portland? I prefer people who are actually Portlanders than national folks covering it.

This morning, I sat on the McClure “school street” and counted cars violating the closure during the 30 minutes before the first bell. There were 16, about one every two minutes.

God I loved both that movie and its soundtrack. I actually have some of the songs in my mix-of-every-song-I-like!

That show identified many actors as tourists lol.

No! Like I knew the moss and ferns benefitted but didn’t know the tree did as well!!!

They rip the fuck up of sidewalks/roads, unfortunately, and their tall spreading branches are not a great mix with power lines. I’m absolutely in love with the ones in front of Greenwood Elementary though. Some friends live a few blocks over and have a spectacular one as a street tree.

And in Seattle, the first one that comes to mind is, of course, “Puyallup.”

It looks like from the comments, a lot of place names are what come to people’s minds. Another one is “Ellicott City.” Even hyper local to where I grew up, I am guessing the way we said “Arbutus” is even specific.
thebethocracy.bsky.social
“Baltimore” lol.

What’s the word where you’re from that, when pronounced exactly as it looks, identifies a tourist immediately?

It’s contagious as hell!

It’s just like, I’ve been many places in the fall, but New England is over the motherfucking top about it. Things Seattle Fall doesn’t have: leaves that absolutely CRACKLE underfoot, cider EVERYTHING, an OVER abundance of maple trees, and I don’t know a certain spooky Puritan ambiance?
thebethocracy.bsky.social
Okay I’m here in MA and the leaves are starting to turn and the air got a bit crisp today and I’m fucking going to a farm to do ridiculous New England fall things and I forgot how goddamn PASSIONATE about fall being here makes you. Also the moon has been HUGE and full, adding to the effect.

So sorry to hear this Amy. Even from afar I could tell how much she meant to you, and having also loved a dog beyond all imagining, my heart breaks for you.

Very true! Like it always kind of shocks me how quickly the culture changes here rural vs. not.

Yeah often I’ve seen the west coast and the west all together as one thing, which makes little sense.
thebethocracy.bsky.social
Shoulda just let it be its own wacky thing, like the little nubbin of “Caribbean” in Florida. Though I think the line should go through Delaware. Wilmington area definitely feels more MidAtlantic.

I’ve not remembered to take many pictures on our trip, but this hella decorated house in Dracut near my SILs’ house also decorated the bus shelter and now I want this to be A Thing People Do.

This is one of the first maps I’ve seen not just have “The West” as one giant monolith, but I have qualms with dividing Chesapeake and Tidewater.

This is the most accurate depiction of the Midwest to date. Wichita has always felt like the last Midwest city while also being the first plains city.

I lived in Talbot and Calvert Counties of Maryland for a little while, but it was the 00’s. Based on that time, I would not separate them from Tidewater. Hell, Tidewater and Chesapeake should go be their own thing for all they have in common. Maybe the rich people who like boats are more now?

I appreciate that people want to be reassured by the clip from the from the ONG brigadier general.

But watch the full video, the biggest tell was how they answered the question of morale… by noting that many guard members had volunteered for this assignment and are cops in their civilian lives.
