Very true! Like it always kind of shocks me how quickly the culture changes here rural vs. not.

Yeah often I’ve seen the west coast and the west all together as one thing, which makes little sense.

Shoulda just let it be its own wacky thing, like the little nubbin of “Caribbean” in Florida. Though I think the line should go through Delaware. Wilmington area definitely feels more MidAtlantic.

I’ve not remembered to take many pictures on our trip, but this hella decorated house in Dracut near my SILs’ house also decorated the bus shelter and now I want this to be A Thing People Do.

This is one of the first maps I’ve seen not just have “The West” as one giant monolith, but I have qualms with dividing Chesapeake and Tidewater.

This is the most accurate depiction of the Midwest to date. Wichita has always felt like the last Midwest city while also being the first plains city.

I lived in Talbot and Calvert Counties of Maryland for a little while, but it was the 00’s. Based on that time, I would not separate them from Tidewater. Hell, Tidewater and Chesapeake should go be their own thing for all they have in common. Maybe the rich people who like boats are more now?

I appreciate that people want to be reassured by the clip from the from the ONG brigadier general.

But watch the full video, the biggest tell was how they answered the question of morale… by noting that many guard members had volunteered for this assignment and are cops in their civilian lives.

Hey CNN why are the gas prices on this photo so low? Ohhhh. I see. You're hoping no one notices this photo is from before the internet fucking existed. You shitheads.

These programs weren't set up this way simply for the benefit of recipients. They are by design also a subsidy for American agriculture. That's the longstanding red-blue, rural-urban political deal of it. Like how they're getting nuked by the trade war, they are cannibalizing their own coalition.

Records obtained by ProPublica indicate that food banks across the country were expecting more than 27 million pounds of chicken, 2 million gallons of milk, 10 million pounds of dried fruit and 60 million eggs that never arrived.
Trump Canceled 94 Million Pounds of Food Aid. Here’s What Never Arrived.
ProPublica obtained records from the Department of Agriculture that detail the millions of pounds of food, down to the number of eggs, that never reached food banks because of the administration’s cut...

Ugh, things to NOT tell my husband while we’re visiting the East Coast.

I see this too often trying to cross 3rd Ave NW at the Greenway on NW 92nd. It’s fucking terrifying.

Yet she’s not allowed to identify with lower classes because her parents are well-off elites. Somehow she’s both too rich and not rich enough. Yet somehow Bruce’s background and connections are above reproach? Like I don’t care where you came up if you seem to have FORGOTTEN what it’s like.

The Seattle stouts have gotten worse-tasting too. I like it rich and caramel-y. I thought it might be me, but having a good one last night showed me that is not the case.

Oh we’re going to Salem to play Halloween tourists tomorrow, I’ll try to check it out!

Yes! Like reading the article you’d think they were talking about a much younger person. Like the dig about where she lived vs. Harrell. Like, can’t that just be a lifestyle choice instead of an allusion to being “more established?”
thebethocracy.bsky.social
Yeah! My SIL is really into breweries and said when they opened the first one somewhere in Western MA people were driving over there from Boston and the lines were looooong. I had the Relentless Optimism milk stout and it was absolutely delicious, so I’d say well deserved.

Husband and I were just talking about how, as elder millennials, we missed a bunch of cultural touchstones that were important to folks just a little bit younger than us, like Pokémon and SpongeBob SquarePants.

Inspired by a post I just saw in which someone admitted they hadn’t seen a single episode of Friends nor the film Love Actually… what cultural hole do you have that’s a bit weird for your generation?

I’ll go first: I haven’t seen Dirty Dancing.

There have been multiple digs in the last week or so--interesting that coordination hmm--at @seattletru.bsky.social's annual revenue hovering around $200k/year as a reason why @wilsonforseattle.bsky.social isn't "qualified" to be Mayor.

If she pulled all this off with $200k, imagine her with $1.9b.
