Seems all the more relevant now.

Sen. Mark Kelly: "The president has indicated that he wants to do something about [ACA subsidies], and he wants the government open. Well, we want this fixed and we want the government open. So why is there a problem here?"

Hey @jaketapper.bsky.social, I'm no expert on cognitive illnesses, but it feels a bit detached from reality for a sitting POTUS to forget that he was in power during an attack on the U.S. Capitol, doesn't it? Do you know anyone in journalism with experience covering dementia-like symptoms?

Americans are a sick people. Among their economic peers, they expect to live shorter lives, experience higher rates of chronic disease, and spend more on their care and upkeep.

Since we have national media outlets behaving like "is Portland, OR a war-torn hell-hole?" is some unsolvable fucking riddle, my mom asked me to take some pictures of various neighborhoods throughout the city. These are those pictures:

The government has been shut down for nearly half a month.

Insurance costs are doubling for millions of families.

And you’re still trying to rewrite history on the first bipartisan vote to impeach a U.S. president?

Put down your phone and focus on ending the Trump shutdown.

It bears repeating that there MUST be consequences for all of this when clearer heads prevail.

The overriding goal of too many journalists is to provide “balanced” coverage from a “neutral” position in equidistance to both sides. That framework is much easier to justify if you pretend to be dealing with “normal” politicians – as opposed to committed ideologues pursuing an extreme project.

Sunday reading:

I wrote about the aggrieved extremist who is currently firing thousands of federal workers and ravaging state capacity based on conspiratorial nonsense - and about mainstream media’s infuriating tendency to sanitize Russell Vought and the regime he serves.

This week’s piece:
We need to talk about Russell Vought – But Properly
Why certain mainstream outlets insist on sanitizing Vought as a devout “small government” conservative – and what actually animates his war against pluralistic democracy

They cannot talk about the shutdown without lying.

There is no connection between troop payments and federal employee layoffs. Zero.

They are paying the troops with multiyear R&D allocations within DOD. This is also illegal by the way! But completely disconnected to the layoffs.

WELKER: During the 2019 shutdown when Trump was president, no federal workers were laid off. Why are these firings necessary?

VANCE: Who do we care more about- federal bureaucrats or the troops getting the payment they need?

WELKER: But layoffs are a priority?

VANCE: They have forced us to choose

Jeffries on Fox News Sunday: "My friends on other aisle seem to think believe healthcare is an extraneous issue. We don't believe it's an extraneous issue. It's a central issue...the states most affected are all ones Trump won...so this is not a partisan fight. We're fighting for everyday Americans"

The people who want violent protests to happen are Trump, Stephen Miller, Kristi Noem, Pete Hegseth, Tom Homan, and other senior appointees in his admin. They are doing everything they possibly can to provoke people to violence and it is obvious that is what they hope for daily.

No one thought he could win once
No one thought he could win twice
No one believed he’d get away with it
No one believed he’d be on the ballot
No one accepted the grim reality
No one accepted he’d destroy humanity
No one was prepared for this
No one is stopping it

To be fair, they misinterpret a whole slew of songs as being supportive of their beliefs and perspectives. CCR's Fortunate Son, and Springsteen's Born in the USA, are good examples of this, as is Jason Isbell's White Man's World. If they only paid attention... 🤔

In the last week, Donald Trump has insisted that there are no more stores left in war-ravaged Portland, asserted that Joe Biden was president during the January 6th insurrection, hosted conspiracy theorists for an "Antifa" summit, and said he'd consider pardoning his good friend the sex trafficker.
