We had frogs, unicorns, chickens, a capybara, and this delightful little dragon/human mixed family - all in organized, joyful splendor. How can we not win???
Just reading that was stressful…
At least five different older folks said they were so glad to see him here today, that he's being part of history. Which maybe he doesn't totally get the magnitude of yet (though yes, he knows why we're protesting), but it's something... Something I'm not quite sure how to put into words yet.
I don't even know exactly what conclusions to draw from that. I mean, it's kind of sad that he's been protesting this same thing off-and-on basically his whole life. At the same time, I mean, what an education, right?
I want to point out that the kid holding the No Kings sign (which he made before the last No Kings protest), is my 9 (almost 10)-year-old son. He's been doing this since he was not even a year old, when he went with me to the 2016 Women's March.
Deep red Wasilla, Alaska. #nokings
Unofficial count I heard was 800. I had to leave early to get to a meeting, and there were still people arriving. Wouldn’t be surprised if final tally was 1000.
I can’t help but compare the lack of national coverage this seems to be getting with the excessive coverage of houses falling into the sea in NC’s outer banks. The situation in western AK looks so bad right now. These are people’s homes and whole communities, just totally destroyed.
Tiny fall fungus for your viewing pleasure.

Sometimes there's so much beauty in the world,... I feel like I can't take it. And my heart is just going to cave in.
It is never a terrible time to publish books. Books are necessary, always.
Among all the terrible shit happening in this country, it was so nice to wake up to some positive local (red state!) election results. Palmer and Fairbanks both elected liberal mayors! (I don’t know enough about the other towns’ races/candidates though.)
LIVE: Fairbanks mayor concedes as more than 20 Alaskan communities hold elections
Almost two dozen municipalities and boroughs across Alaska held local elections Tuesday, asking voters to decide on new mayors and propositions on the ballot.

Alaska folx, go get your vote on!
Municipal elections day in Alaska!
I found this exact book at a thrift store when my kid was like 5. It was a favorite read for him for quite a while and still sits on his shelf now at almost 10. I also make him watch as many 80s-90s TV shows as he can stand. Trying so hard to make that era live on in my house at least.
Truly terrifying. And yet somehow not surprising.
Well yeah, obviously not *those* guys. F those guys.
I feel bad for lots of government employees these days, unfortunately.
Oh, you mean the America my forefathers created by… invading a foreign land? That one? Yeah…
More of this please.
We are thrilled to announce that our NEW Large Language Model will be released on 11.18.25.
Thank you thank you thank you for this recommendation! The struggle of deciding what to watch is real…
Extremely honored to be included in this issue of Prairie Schooner alongside some truly amazing writers!
(and yes, this is the winter 2024 issue… which just came out… they’re a bit behind in their pub schedule…)
