So I finished Final Fantasy Tactics… is it a hot take to say the Final Fantasy story kinda got in the way of the class struggle story? I liked the story, but the lucavi part didn’t do a lot for me

Finished Leviathan Falls. I never thought the Expanse was an amazing series, but this last book was terrible. The last three books really drag it down, and the final book is easily the worst in the series

Through an unlikely partnership, Aylan, Leo, Lyn, and several minor characters team up to help Sophia rise through the entertainment industry to infiltrate Monad and uncover the conspiracies behind the corporation that killed a god

But all the while, Natalia is busy tracking them down

Natalia is the freelance corporate assassin who killed Sophia’s parents, but the client refused to pay, telling her she missed a target they hadn’t told her about. While dealing with family debts and fangirling over Lyn’s group, she attempts to find out who Sophia is and finish the job

Lyn is a former pop idol. After a riot broke out when her group announced their shift to indie to make music they wanted, their manager and adoptive father won’t release their likeness rights back to them. Her knowledge of the dark side of the entertainment industry helps Sophia’s infiltration

Leo is Sophia’s first ally. The son of an important mafioso, he finds Sophia when the dream parlor she hid out in calls for help from the family. He takes protecting people in his family’s territory very seriously and vows to help Sophia find out why her parents were killed

Aylan is a detective for a private police company who ends up wrapped up in Sophia’s plan through investigating her parents’ murder. It’s a highly unusual case for the police companies to be contracted out for low profile murders, so he sees a bigger conspiracy at play

Sophia’s story of infiltrating Monad to get the the source of this voice is told primarily through the perspectives of four other characters central to the plot

After her parents are murdered by an unseen assassin, she hears a mysterious voice coming from the tower in the center of the city, Monad headquarters. Made to look like a tree piercing the very heavens, this is where Monad claimed to have killed God to free humanity with their technology

Sophia is a young girl who despite having no implants, can interact with the networks set up to use the brain chips developed by the Monad Corporation to influence human perception of their senses.

Final Fantasy Tactics is really funny with how every so often it just drops in a little Karl Marx quote as a treat, which reminds me I still need to play Disco Elysium

Another thing that’s really funny about the later expanse books is how they introduced a villain named Duarte while the Philippines were under a dictator named Duterte is like if I wrote a story right now with a fascist dictator named Trund
