The hardest part of writing romance is having no lived experience of it, so I'm totally winging it -part of why only my side characters engage in it 😉.
Not writing it and centering friendships instead is super easy. Marketing it without a friendship-focused genre is harder.

Nope; friendship is a central theme in all of my books, specifically characters making friends and friendship groups forming and tackling SFF plots together.
Sometimes side chars get romance arcs coz they insist, but as a happily single aro-ace myself, romance is never central.
