About a month ago, the Trump administration got rid of the de minimis exemption, whereby packages valued under $800 could slide in without import duties. Now there's a backlog as the government can't process all of this paperwork, leading to UPS just destroying packages
Business Insider headline reads: UPS is telling customers that their packages coming to the US are marked for destruction.

guy who is most notable for slorking down raw eggs directly out of the shell like an australopithecine complaining that someone else is eating primitive slop

A huge part of current twitter is eating disorder content for racist guys

to be clear i think that the trajectory of "AI" depends primarily on whether the research yields anything useful in the next couple years rather than following any natural scaling law, but this guy is just talking his book
theophite.bsky.social
his suggestion is that you take everything out of stocks and go long gold equities. which he sells
theophite.bsky.social
unfortunately, source is actually a crank Austrian commodities trader via Marketwatch who is claiming that we are doomed because near-zero interest rates resulted in the entire economy being malinvested

one single step that would do a lot to improve reputation of LLMs would be for Google to abandon AI Mode like they do with all of their other products

like, this was a man who very clearly had a suit fetish

one funny thing about this is that you can even remove all the high-frequency features and you... can still see the leyendecker i seeded it with like three years ago, even with no leyendecker remaining
theophite.bsky.social
it is. i am working on something which removes all the high-frequency features so i can just see the low-frequency features, and one of my test images made Boat Guy.
theophite.bsky.social
yeah, i'm working on a label i can use to remove everything but the low-frequency features from something so i can work on silhouettes
theophite.bsky.social
trying out something new. this came out. extremely mysterious.

i mean, i think that it would be good to drop them just to avoid sending money to them, but they're moving towards paper receipts and removing barcode encoding from their ballots. i don't think there's much risk.
theophite.bsky.social
i don't know that it's a good sign in 2018
theophite.bsky.social
oh. good. this requires a paper receipt and bans barcode-encoded votes, as well as recertification. there are a lot of problems with the EO but the voting machine stuff is not one of them.
theophite.bsky.social
yeah, the basic play here seems to be to take the fact that he killed Dominion to sell known-good machines to Republican jurisdictions
theophite.bsky.social
correct, yes. there are also e-day audits.

really striking the degree to which not a single person working in the trump administration appears to be interested in serving the american people
theophite.bsky.social
and ES&S was historically much worse -- Howard Ahmanson Jr. was both the owner of the voting machine company and believed that democracy was literally a heretical form of government and must be overthrown. he was one of Gary North's big funders.

like, the EAC labs inspect the actual source code, and then compile it to a known-good binary and produce a signature hash. the code running on the actual machines has to match the signature hash on election day.

this guy is kind of a rwnj but he is more or less on the level and he still has to pass his audits to sell his equipment

i cannot believe that after Biden and RBG we are still having discussions about whether 80-year-olds should hold public office. they shouldn't. flat out.
