Hi followers. In case you thought I was JUST a shitposter, I'm a historian, trained as a medievalist and working on the long eighteenth century, a college professor, and also for the last six years I've been writing about the far right. Primarily the religious far right, but not exclusively.

In the kindest way I can say this: scolding someone for their coping mechanisms, even when meant with the utmost of care and correct thought and feelings, provokes wild emotional responses that are unfair to your intentions.

And no offense to all of you but I can write this here because the internet isn't real and if I say it out loud or pick up the phone to tell me friends or do anything at all I will have to accept it and I will break into a million pieces and I don't know if I will ever pull myself back together.

It's not real and I keep waiting for someone to tell me it's visiting hours at the hospital or wherever he is but also I cannot walk downstairs at my parents house right now because he's dead in his bed and I'm saying goodbye to him because he's gone and thirty hours later I am still in shock.

My father is gone and there is a hole in the world that cannot ever be filled. And I am so numb right now, but I know that the grief behind it wants to swallow me whole.

For those not fluent in Catholic: refusing the Monstrance is not denying prisoners the Eucharist, it is refusing Christ himself, since Christ is present in the Monstrance.

If Portland’s blow up animals are the right language for Portland, this is the right language for Chicago.

Chicago priest Fr. Larry Dowling describes procession to ICE facility: “No one had the courage to speak directly to us. No one from Homeland Security could stand in the presence of the Monstrance holding the Blessed Sacrament. No wonder. Evil is repelled, recoils in the presence of Christ.”

Rutgers TPUSA says they don't condone harassment of anyone who opposes them, but I hear from colleagues that people who signed the petition calling for them to be banned are receiving email threats to publicize their home addresses if they don't remove their name and apologize.

The Rutgers TPUSA chapter — whose characterization of a historian there as a “outspoken, well-known antifa member” led to death threats and moving his family to Europe — think *other* people are being “blatantly defamatory.”

Not them, though. They’re doing politics the right way.

Douthat and Wilson together? I'm ready for the apocalypse so at least no one is printing papers so no one is writing something that stupid.

The circumcision tylenol autism bullshit out of MAHA feels like we're a week away from yet another overt "it was secretly the Jews!" full blown Nazi moment that the media will pretend isn't that.

I want an FPS video game where you play as George Orwell but you get to win the Spanish Civil War by shooting all the Falangists, level after level after level.

Writing a video game about how actually vengeance is awesome.

French tanks invading Nationalist Spain 35 days after the civil war starts is my favorite way to go, but to each their own.

Did you know if you play Hearts of Iron 4 enough times you can kill Hitler, Mussolini and Franco as pretty much every single country? I really enjoy letting Leon Blum kill them in order of Franco-Mussolini-Hitler, but there's no wrong way to end fascism.

Every time they say "communists!" they picture an International Brigade that they get to put down with tanks and bombers.

What they really want is the Nazis to help them shoot you in a civil war where they win and everyone they hate gets to be called a communist and they can dump their bodies in mass graves across the countryside.

They say they love Franco because they are correctly convinced you don't know what that means.

An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.
