So my theory is Iona et al represent a political tendency that used to be totally dominant in Ireland because our middle class were all basically Catholic extremists. And the reason our newspapers are still like that is because newsrooms are very insular and backward.

The all channels attacks on Catherine Connolly are because, as with Irish Water, Ireland's right wing establishment have an unpopular project (de facto joining the "Western military alliance") that the hoi polloi aren't sophisticated enough to grasp the necessity of and desperation is setting in.
