Here's the thing about these statistics: they are inextricably linked to the way that socially destructive forces in the media affect people in the real world. They also fail to capture institutional abuse (failure to record hate against a persecuted minority).

Basically at this point, the only thing the parents can do is get hold of some blockers and self-medicate or leave the UK immediately. There is no shortage of transitioned women who could help with that.

When you're fully transitioned, it's just torture to force a beard and a broken voice.

Right now, I have the same rights as some cis guy called "John" who calls himself "Jane" for a laugh and "identifies as transgender" for 15 minutes on YouTube.

I'm going to be unpopular but I really do think there should be a tiered system in gender recognition, because embodiment matters, it's observable, measurable and based in reality. There's got to be a line where my sex characteristics matter *in law*, because currently, they don't.

🇬🇧UK news coverage since October 2023 has foregrounded alleged antisemitism at pro-Palestine demonstrations far more than it has the proven, continuing threat from far-right extremists.🇬🇧

While some protest incidents are genuinely antisemitic, the media's emphasis is disproportionate to actual risk.

While the attack on innocent people at the synagogue is awful and terrible, so is the response by the BBC, and it leads the observer to think: the whole fucking thing is suss. In such situations I find it helpful to consider: who benefits?

When safeguarding is reduced to "women's safety" only, it ignores that vulnerability lies across the gender spectrum, LGBT people, blind and deaf people, people with Learning difficulties. We need to have conversations about risk and safety beyond "biological sex".

Not a fan of Owen Jones, but let's hope he wakes up and realises that "safeguarding concerns" is the same lie that they told about trans people. I'm not actually holding much hope for that, though.
