Most of the simultaneous large studies that I'm aware of are data exploration studies ("Is BPA exposure associated with illness?"), not studies designed to "prove" one specific outcome ("Is prenatal Tylenol use associated with autism?").

Can you give me an example of when a funding agency (aka NIH) funded multiple studies, at the same time, to try and "prove" one very particular association? That's highly unusual.

IDK, it sure seems to me that multiple (p hacking) studies looking for one particular kind of association isn't a methodologically sound way of doing science.
