Something I've been thinking about that is just unbearable is the disproportionate amount of bravery and care and energy someone like Renee Good had to summon to stand up against evil and die, contrasted with 57yo Susan of Cumbottom Arkansas who is just here for the stories on TV and a cute day out.

I don't want to come across as pedantic, but I don't understand how you could find current events humiliating as an American. That would require a personal association with your government that is simply not real, and an assumption that the US stands for anything other than brutal self-preservation.
Today is the most humiliating day in the history of the United States of America.
