First Nations can establish IPCAs under their inherent rights and laws, but provincial and federal governments lack the legal framework to recognize them as protected areas.

PWWA members near Vancouver recently enjoyed an extended visit from the A42 & A25 matrilines of NORTHERN Residents. Unlike endangered Southern Residents, the NR population, which also feeds primarily on salmon, is much larger, with ~330-340 individuals.

So many seahorses around Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - a place dear to my heart after spending a year near there living on board #bottomtrawlers for my PhD research. Perhaps our #iconicfishes can inspire a transition toward more sustainable fishing methods in the Gulf of California.
