What a weekend celebrating the Salish Sea on Pender Island!

There's something special about islanders coming together to talk about the waters that surround us and how to protect them.

Thank you to everyone who took a low-tide walk identifying local seaweed with marine biologist Amanda Swinimer.

Grasslands cover just 1% of BC, yet are vital for wildlife like burrowing owls, badgers, and bighorn sheep. The proposed South Okanagan–Similkameen National Park Reserve could help protect 246 species at risk — and you can help make it happen.
Urge the Government to Protect Endangered Grasslands in BC | CPAWS-BC

PM Carney once called climate change “the most pressing issue of our time.” So why then is his government fast-tracking fossil fuel projects that turbo-charge these types of climate disasters? Our latest blog warns that this approach puts Canada’s climate goals and our communities' health at risk.
Prime Minister Carney’s climate track record: grand bargain or bargain bin?
Carney once wrote that “climate change is the most pressing issue of our time.” It’s time to act like it. Canadians deserve a government that meets its climate obligations, not one that gives up on th...

Kelp forests, mangroves, seagrass meadows, and coral reefs are vital blue ecosystems that sustain our planet.

Yet, they are severely threatened by climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution, and waste.

Here's why their protection matters: www.unep.org/interactives...

Text overlay reads: “Seagrass meadows store carbon up to 35 times faster than tropical rainforests, and are an important habitat for dugong and seahorses. 🦫 Populations of species in Canadian freshwater habitats have remained stable (+5%) since 1970.

BUT "stable" doesn't tell the full story: 52% of freshwater species are declining.

Canada holds 20% of the world's surface freshwater. We must protect it. 💙🌎
