!! REALLY IMPORTANT - if you receive an email from something that *seems* like my email address but it's not (without the dot in between first and last) it is not me, ignore, delete, and tell me about it

Just to note that my phone got stolen about 45 mins ago in Central London, so if you receive anything weird-looking from me - especially Whatsapp/Signal - ignore

Particularly annoyed because this means that instead of to the national march for Palestine I get to go to catch the train for a 7-8hr round trip to get my backup phone from home 🤦‍♀️

could be much worse, but as the last few times (when admittedly my screen broke - this is only the second time I had a phone stolen in over twenty years 😡) it reminds me of the vulnerability of being alone without close friends/family, plus our overreliance on phones (even mine, and I try not to)

I am (I think) - someone just scooped it out of my pocket, which is a bit stupid as it's worth nothing. My bank accounts are separated and I (luckily) don't need Google maps. But it is annoying af as *of course* authenticator means I need to go back north, plus wait for replacement sim...

Was going to say Edward Albee but I guess that one is obvious 😀 (I was then going to say Sylvia Plath, which is the only one even more obvious)

not a problem - I understand and agree to a great extent. I do however think that, if we are seriously committed to changing how universities are run, we need to move beyond the dichotomy of "evil, scheming, conceited managers" and "naive, well-meaning, innocent academics". It's the least we can do.

Not sure I fully agree that this kind of motivational reductionism explains it (see the "platitudes about the nature of academic labour" bit). Sure, there is something about position/function, but it shouldn't translate into assuming people's agency magically follows from their (chosen) profession.

Universities: we teach critical thinking, we are so passionate about challenging orthodoxies

Also universities: here is our entirely uncritical adoption of AI-bleat that turns platitudes (about both the nature of academic labour and 'the digital') into "policy"

What gives, mates

strongly suspect it may be because US universities think universities exist only in the US, much like UK universities think universities exist only in the UK and the US 🤷

Right now, Donald Trump, Kash Patel, Kristi Noem, and other officials are participating in a panel about "Antifa," threatening to "destroy the entire organization [sic] from top to bottom."

This is a good time to revisit our guide to preparing for repression:

In yet another unsurprising news, Tech/Finbro fix is a fix only for tech-and-fin-bros.

The oil & gas industry is pushing #CCS because it locks in fossil fuels—and governments like the UK are footing the bill.
@influencemap.bsky.social reveals no CCS projects are operational in the UK, and even industry insiders doubt it works.
A win for polluters, a loss for people and planet.

This one advertises the end of year show at, I think, Central St Martin's school of art

If you like this image, please retweet it - remember, BlueSky has #NoAlgorithm
An old colour picture postcard featuring a cartoon of a knitting goat and the words: "I once had a goat that could knit, woolly garments that didn't quite fit! Legs and sleeves way too long, and they didn't half pong, while the rest of the garment just split!"

One of David Graeber's most interesting pieces was from 2013 called - 'A practical utopians guide to the coming collapse.'

Here is an extract.
"What would happen if we stopped acting as if the primordial
form of work is laboring at a production line, or wheat field,
or iron foundry, or even in an office cubicle, and instead
started from a mother, a teacher, or a caregiver?
.
We might be forced to conclude that the real business of
human life is not contributing toward something called the
economy but the fact that we are all, and have always been,
projects of mutual creation."
.

I could talk for a very, very long time about our mistreatment and abuses in our imprisonment. Trust me, but that is not the story.
