Particularly annoyed because this means that instead of to the national march for Palestine I get to go to catch the train for a 7-8hr round trip to get my backup phone from home 🤦‍♀️

could be much worse, but as the last few times (when admittedly my screen broke - this is only the second time I had a phone stolen in over twenty years 😡) it reminds me of the vulnerability of being alone without close friends/family, plus our overreliance on phones (even mine, and I try not to)

I am (I think) - someone just scooped it out of my pocket, which is a bit stupid as it's worth nothing. My bank accounts are separated and I (luckily) don't need Google maps. But it is annoying af as *of course* authenticator means I need to go back north, plus wait for replacement sim...

not a problem - I understand and agree to a great extent. I do however think that, if we are seriously committed to changing how universities are run, we need to move beyond the dichotomy of "evil, scheming, conceited managers" and "naive, well-meaning, innocent academics". It's the least we can do.

Not sure I fully agree that this kind of motivational reductionism explains it (see the "platitudes about the nature of academic labour" bit). Sure, there is something about position/function, but it shouldn't translate into assuming people's agency magically follows from their (chosen) profession.

strongly suspect it may be because US universities think universities exist only in the US, much like UK universities think universities exist only in the UK and the US 🤷

One of David Graeber's most interesting pieces was from 2013 called - 'A practical utopians guide to the coming collapse.'
