this is all "arm chair general managing" and maybe my assumptions lack merit and wont hold true... but the top teams still have top recruiting classes & average teams would need new york yankees money to buy the kind of talent needed to be & remain elit.

so all football teams are still equally average.

2 or 3 stud portal recruits arent going to flip a program in football

high school recruiting & retention are still primary keys to winning in football

gaining one stud portal guy for every two former high school recruits that portal out is no gain.

i think NIL & the portal are blessings in college hoops, but not so much for football. everyone outside the top 8 are basically various levels of average; even after acquiring some former 5-star stud who didnt play as much at their last school - bc all avg teams are getting a player like this now -

i havent watched any pro football in nearly 20 yrs, but this is the first time i havent watched any college football beyond one single quarter of play for my precious louisville cardinals... finishing in the top 10 is always a longshot for average teams, but this the 1st time its felt irrelevant.
