I write queer-normative space fantasy.

My necromancy is based on string theory, and my plots are character driven with lots of found family, and a big middle finger to authoritarianism.

I have too many WIPS and I haven't published anything this year. I need to get something off my to do list.

Currently deciding which project to work on.

I should probably get back to editing book 3 so I can punish it.

Trying to motivate myself to boot up the laptop and write today.

Decided to have some chocolate from my stash.

Okay, okay, I will obey the chocolate.

Absolutely devoured this book. It has so many of my favorite things. And the imagery is lovely.

I have a definite *thing* for "powerful magical person with dark past who transforms into an eager creepy puppydog toward the first person who treats them with a crumb of kindness".

Read the first chapter of "The Traitor and the Wretch" today during lunch and I can't wait to finish work.

She already is!

Last night she only wanted help to read the word "curtain".

Also "theater" but I'm not counting it, because she knows the word theater, it just confused her since it was spelled the-ater because it was split across two lines due to the word wrap.

She IS.

I'm very excited she's decided she enjoys reading now. She didn't like it because it was challenging to read the kids of books she wanted to read so preferred if someone read to her, but she's been reading me one of 8yo's books at bedtime every night and doing great.

Yes!

Character development also includes their relationship developments with others. That's some of the best stuff.

I'm just saying, we could settle this with swords, instead of 30+ emails. 🤺

A WIP embroidery piece, with a sword and mace chzrm, spikes and letter beads.

The beads read "this email could have been a duel | fight me"

Make sure to properly bathe your werewolf partners
specially if they're out in the forest chasing criminals, finding lost folks or getting into tussles with other supernatural beings!

6yo: I love reading now, Mommy! I know all kinds of words and how to spell them, all because of reading! And the things I learn at school make it so much easier to read! I LOVE READING! LOOK AT ALL THESE WORDS!

She's telling me all about her book and why Hannah is a thunder dragon.

Names are so hard!

I keep notes on fun ones I run across, just in case they fit someone later. Then end up using them for Planets instead because my characters are picky.

I feel you, Martha. It's exhausting enough dealing with the living.

It's important to me. I did not have that privilege myself, so I try to give it to others.

Not all of them, though. From my polyam romance draft, for example. Poor Zeke.

But most of them.

“My parents are good people, Mills. They just weren’t good to me. But as much as I hate it, I can’t blame them. Maybe I’d have made the same choice. Sacrifice one child to save the others. And it’s not like I've ever needed anything since I signed up. Anything I could ever want, the government’s already covered. All I have to do is… this.”

The Lawrence family is all kind of traumatized-but-trying:

- Jake, precocious pre-teen
- Caroline, ferocious dead mother
- Shane, powerful guilt-ridden necromancer, programmed to do literally anything to complete his mission, which is currently raising Jake
- Feels, Shane's murdered spouse, healer

I try to write good parents.

I mean, most are still flawed parents. (Except Veris' mother, she can adopt me please, and feed me whatever she wants in her kitchen).

But genuinely trying ones.

And then there's Selkirk. Her reasons are solid, she's just... A Selkirk. It's complicated.

Me, too!

I mean, I enjoy my day job, but I would love the ability to do it less often.

I get my best ideas while driving. So, same.

I did get a water resistant phone so I can take notes in the bath. That is my second best thinking place.

I love her, so much. She's very demanding, and the one person in the universe Shane is afraid of.

She doesn't appear in books 1 or 2, although Shane and Jake talk about her, but starting in book 3:

<<You promised me.>>

There was a warning in the words this time, a deep set threat he'd never felt in his life until that fateful day on Loxira when–

<<You promised you would protect our Jacobus. Keep him safe. But you are here, and he is home. Worried sick about you.>>

Caroline. She'd come to find him, the one person he'd sworn never to cross, no matter the cost. Her intentions were clear despite the lack of inflection in the Legionese she'd chosen to address him, her urgency conveyed instead by the precise vocabulary of the language itself.

<<I know you are here. Answer me, Necromancer. I will not allow you to abandon our son.>>
vazdimet.com
Honestly I get jealous of my characters sometimes simply because they don't have to worry about these things.
vazdimet.com
In my published series, Shane is a deeply traumatized necromancer haunted both figuratively and literally by his past mistakes. He wants to atone, and has decided that raising the son of his last victim as his own is the best way to do that. (Yes, he coparents with her ghost).

Oh gosh yes!

But I would settle for consistent time to write.
vazdimet.com
I need more time and less responsibilities.

Also a self-cleaning house would be nice.
vazdimet.com
I write too slow.

I have all these notes on where they're going and how they'll get there and I want to see them get there and share that journey with others, but my writing time can't keep up with the ideas.

I have so many I still want to edit and bring back in line with the worldbuilding and actual plot somehow, because the interactions are just so much fun.
