I started reading Trudie Skies' "The Thirteenth Hour" this week and I've been hooked since not even halfway through the first chapter.

Really annoyed life keeps demanding my attention because I just want to disappear into this worldbuilding and these characters.

Was rereading the ending of In Spite of the Inevitable, and I love the fledgling friendship between Shane and Razick so much.

Raz threatened him with cake if he didn't stop getting lost in his thoughts, and he uses it on her brother instead to fend off an unwelcome crowd of admirers

Introduced 6yo to Wheat Thins and she is obsessed.

Getting her to eat is tough. I know wheat thins aren't that healthy but they're better than Doritos & ice cream sandwiches, the only other two things she'll drop everything to munch on.

At least she's eating something besides sugar.

originally it was JUST gonna be Zootopia, Bad Guys, and Sly Cooper, but then @/mrboosh.bsky.social suggested to include Robin Hood and THAT really completed it

Also, was gonna draw everyone in their unique styles at first, before realizing that 2 different 3d styles would be hard to replicate lol

It's a weird time to be trying to release a book in the US for the first time, but I guess we all need some medieval werewolves and queer yearning amidst The Horrors? Anyway, it's only a week until THE WOLF AND HIS KING comes out in North America, and the NA edition is VERY pretty:
The North American edition of THE WOLF AND HIS KING. It's a hardback book with a brightly coloured cover featuring a golden wolf and crown against a backdrop of woods and grass, in bright colours like a stained glass window. Next to the copy with the dustjacket on is one without it, showing the foil design under the dustjacket, which develops aspects of the main cover design such as the wolves, crown, and plants in a kind of symmetrical, geometric design, in gold foil on a red background. There is knotwork down the spine of the book. The books are standing on several horizontal copies, showing the stencilled edges, which have a red, blue and gold design with a wolf against a star and some fronds of grass or something.

Jake's parents are fighting again, leaving Navarch Javon to try and comfort him after his father – her boss – unexpectedly and uncharacteristically leaves a strategy meeting.

She didn't quite think through her metaphor.

“My parents are fighting again.” Her face softened, concern overtaking fear. “Is everything okay at home?” “They’re not talking, and they need to.” Jake shrugged. “They were best friends, and then they were fighting, and then they got married. I don’t know much about love, but I do know about fighting. Veris and I had to spend a lot of time talking before I was comfortable enough to call him a friend. ” He wrinkled his nose. “And I still wouldn’t marry him.” Javon sighed, her ears twitching as she studied Jake. “Have you ever been to space? I mean, before Baden.” “No, sir,” he answered honestly. She exhaled, rising from her chair and bouncing slightly on her feet as she grasped her wrists behind her back. “Early in my career, shortly after I made captain, the Confederation sent us hunting mining prospects for starmetal. Our ship jumped into a system with two stars colliding.” Jake furrowed his brows, trying to figure out what this had to do with his parents’ trip to the Loxiran bunker. “What did you do?” “Watched. For a little bit, anyway, until Navigations rested long enough to jump us out again. Not much else we could do. Certainly too much activity to mine anything.” She smiled down at him. “These two stars were lucky. Found each other at just the right trajectory to dance. Sharing parts of themselves, until they eventually drew close enough to merge into a larger star. A stable star, one that’ll burn brighter and hotter than most other stars in the universe. One of the most beautiful sights I’d ever seen.” Jake smiled at the thought of Feels and his father doing just that with their relationship, but paused. “What happens if they don’t? If they get the trajectory wrong?” Javon sat down again, suddenly busy with her console. “What happens, Javon?” he demanded. It was Alanis who answered, her voice worried as she perched on his shoulder. “They tear each other apart, in a fury of hydrogen.”

One unique aspect of this one is that it is drawn very poorly, by someone who doesn't even seem to be trying to make it look good at all. (Yes, the blood on the duvet is hers, from her joint issue. I thought I'd give it some space to breathe, see if that helped it heal faster, and it did not. I need to wrap it again tonight.)

Lest you think I'm a soulless taskmaster: Fun was had by all.

Did loose my keys for a half hour, that part wasn't fun. But the rest was!

Spouse is home from work, so now I get to...
Log into my day job and squeeze in a few hours. No rest for the weary. Not in this country.
6yo sledding (her first time on a real sled), to 8yo's encouraging cheers. 6yo making a snow angel. 6yo making a "baby snowgirl". She is upset all snow people are assumed male and has set out to change this. 8yo pulling 6yo home on the sled.
