I have faith. Some of the books we read Laurie are so abstract and discordant - no AI could ever write them. Like his current fave about the duck and mouse living in the stomach of a wolf - shouting up for wine and cheese as a cure for the the stomach ache their dancing is causing the wolf (etc)

Similar to the time I ‘downloaded’ Rachel Steven’s Sweet Dreams My LAX mp3 - and it was a good 3-4 mins before I realised it was a 16 bar loop. And that’s still the version of it that exists in my head.

absolutely. what i find weirder to think about though, and maybe it was just a Leeds thing - was the way people used the town name instead of the area code. like our number was 825952, but it'd be described as Leeds 825952 - yknow? and that mean you had to know Leeds was 0532...

part of me thinks it wasn't just about remembering the number though - the muscle memory of which button to press (post-rotary phone obviously) helped in the moment. i can remember old friend's numbers by the pattern i pressed numbers in more than the actual number
