Luisa's just asked me if Swansea City have a mascot. Oh boy, do we have a mascot. It's just taken me the guts of twenty mintues to fill her in on the rap sheet that Cyril the Swan has accrued over the years. To be fair, I was giggling for a fair amount of that.

The very bottom of the cast list for 1987's "Nice Girls Don't Explode". I like to think that Eric the Cat was well recompensed for whatever danger he chose to put himself into in the name of cinema.

This week - "Throw Momma From The Train", "Nice Girls Don't Explode", "Dragnet" and "The Garbage Pail Kids Movie". Who wouldn't want to go back there?

If you have Kindle Unlimited, you can sample the first volume of Dan Slott's peerless run on the Fantastic Four. I fell in love with it pretty much from the point he festooned Ben Grimm in kittens.
Ben Grimm as The Thing, dealing with the fact that tiny black and white kittens adore him. He's festooned in them, and he doesn't seem to mind. Ben Grimm as The Thing, reacting to the "Four" signal flare in the sky. Before he can answer it, he has to divest himself of the multiple kittens who've taken a fancy to him in this frame.

The Phil Collins bit from "The Bobble Hat Affair" caused me to laugh so hard I almost couldn't breathe. Magnificent.

Watching House of Fools. Vic and Bob are so great. Also remembered the time when the A-Z listings on iPlayer read House of Commons, House of Fools, House of Lords, which always made me smile.

Would shout. Would *shout*! Why don't I ever spot typos until long after I've posted something?

The Doctor Who fan's equivalent of "try not to think of a polar bear"

The challenge not to reply to anyone you hear say "I'm confused" with "So's the TARDIS, ha ha", is very real and criminally underappreciated.

Job occupations, from an 1881 census. Every one of these sounds like something a sorely provoked Captain Haddock would should at someone in times of heavy stress.

We lose so many, don't we? Those people we grew up watching, falling in love with. Older we get, the less there are. You want them to be here forever. It's impossible, but you want it to be like that. So sad to hear we've lost Diane Keaton. She'll be so, so missed.

No more MTV? Will nobody think of these guys? Poor sods. They can't exactly retrain for a career in cyber, can they?

So that's it for MTV in this country then. If I'm honest, I thought it'd all gone a long time ago. Late 80s, a workmate used to tape random hours of it for me and it all seemed impossibly exotic and exciting. I lost touch years ago but for those days... thank you MTV. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
MTV to axe its music TV channels in the UK
The broadcaster will stop showing music videos in December, but its main channel will remain on air.

I suppose it was bound to happen. Jesus recast.

Reading "Laugh Lines" by Alan Zweibel. I love the moment where he feels confident enough to say to Paul Simon "You don't know it yet, but it's raining" and get away with it.

That's a belter of a joke. I'm just glad Paul laughed, that's all.

I'm not altogether sure why Jack Docherty's "Start/Stop" is now known as "It's Not Us, It's Them" for commercial release. If you should be looking for it and can't find it, that's why.
Cover to the digital release of the radio series "It's Not Us, It's Them", which is what "Start/Stop" is now known as for retail purposes.

A late arrival in the ridiculous format wars. The Yes Album on reel-to-reel, direct from Rhino. A snip at 300 dollars, give or take a couple of cents. I thought that Nancy Sinatra album a couple of years ago on 8-Track was the peak, but here we all are.

Never seen it, but just read a plot summary. Good lord.

I was ten minutes into tonight's Sister Boniface Mysteries before I realised that not only was that Elaine C Smith guest starring, but also, a very, VERY distinguished Gordon Kennedy - somehow contriving to look more Scottish than any man has before or is ever likely to again. Love him.
Gordon Kennedy in Sister Boniface Mysteries - Are Ye Dancin'? Resplendently silver-haired, with a green pullover and a brown jacket on over the top. He's currently trying to explain that he's not about to sell the van full of whisky the police have just discovered on the side for a nice wee extra bit of cash. The police are trying to decide whether to run him in.
