Saw some suspiciously familiar artwork and character design at a local handicrafts market and thought, well, at least it's not Slop -- and then I realised fuck me that's where we are now. That's how low the bar has dropped. Human-made but low on originality is still human fucking made. Chrrrrist.

I was genuinely curious about the background of Klimar Albrego Garcia after so much noise, so I did some digging. In the end I found a NYT deep dive from May that seems almost unrealistically well-researched and written in this day and age.

This day and age where .gov just means "maga propaganda".

As a reader, I do love a bargain. But as a writer, seeing this much overlooked talent at that price point *guts* me.

And sooner or later, as indies, we have to identify as one over the other.

Marketing is hard. #Book marketing is super hard. Getting reviews for those books is harder still. Here we have a #collection of #SFF books that seem to largely fall between the cracks of easily defined genres, deserving of some attention.

I dunno. Long ago, I tried to educate my five-year-old then stepson on basic grammar 5 days a week (eg "Don't have, not don't got, kiddo") when his deadbeat birthdad happily undid it all the other 2. No winning that one. Turns out the kid was just ahead of his time I guess. Heh.

That's why I can't do it. I used to offer "manuscript assessment" back in the 2010s: a catch-all for anything related to improving a WIP. Dev, line, proof. Intense, rewarding...not cheap. I massively undercharged. But I couldn't give less than my all.

Now I do it for free and call it "feedback". :)

On the other: it's 21 freakin discs
On the other other: it came in the worst packaging I've ever seen. Discs were like stacked on top of each other. Loose. In an official case.

Calling off a sustained, globally recognised genocide isn't a "peace deal" and the Nobel committee hopefully isn't going to go, "oh look, the evil old men aren't genociding a helpless populace anymore, what mighty fine menschen they are!"

Once write I tried to linear a book. Hated it I.

(I can't believe we live in a world where House of Leaves wasn't just published; it was a huge hit. I remind myself of that beautiful effed-up beast anytime I despair that my non-linear approach might be a bit...user-unfriendly.)

The rapidity and ease with which I am blocking/hiding formerly reliable, reputable American news sources is both alarming and reassuring. The former because wtaf USA Today; the latter because at least they aren't being subtle about it.

The Siblings Jaydemyr -- Blackcloak and Gildenhammer merged into one multitudinous volume -- will be 925 pages.

Apparently the limit with Ingramspark is 1050 so I'm going to take my sailing under that bar as a sign.

Also, the combined trigger warnings page(s?) for both books will be *horrific*.
