I don’t think a long book is even primarily about plot, or character, or any of the patterned information on its pages. A long book is practicing over time a way of being in the world. Reading even a very good summary is not the same as giving over some portion of your own life to that practice.

Jokes aside, I’m working on a documentary right now and spent a bunch of time in an small rural Eastern Washington town of 13,000 and they have a bunch of rock/punk/hardcore etc… bands coming up teens/early 20’s etc… thriving scene

I can’t help but think today about how many young people were savaged on social media, branded as anti-semites and abandoned by their schools for daring to call for a ceasefire. I remember saying that it was the first time I can remember that calling for ceasefire was regarded as a hostile demand.
