This John Lewis quote — and the example of Civil Rights Movement participants, more broadly, feels especially needed right now.

Their silencing must be our speaking. Words to encourage in our homes, institutions, and neighborhoods.

I find the actions taken over the past two months in academia illegal and immoral, and find it hard to believe how easy it is to govern with bully behavior that is ungrounded in the laws of the land.

If you think these actions are okay, then please ignore this post. This is not an invitation for debate. This is an invitation for action and participation in standing up for voices in the margins.

If three words are banned, then what will stop them from banning more and which ones will be next?
I am not a lawyer, but if you want to help the cause in ensuring that freedom of speech and academic freedom are protected, feel free to share your thoughts.
The University of Alaska is in trouble folks.

Based on these two documents, three words have been banned from public facing web pages and in many cases web pages containing these words have been deactivated.

This is erasure, censorship, and the active banning of words without legal precedent.

Exquisite response by Georgetown Dean to interim USA Ed Martin

On Martin's threat letter not to hire grads until Martin approves of law school curriculum:

"The constitutional violation behind this threat is clear, as is the attack on the University’s mission as a Jesuit and Catholic institution."
“Maybe some of the people who make fun of people for being woke are secretly jealous that those people seem to have something going for them, whether it be clarity of analysis, or solidarity ... or the ability to succeed in spite of systemic inequality,”

(noun) indifferent; mediocre | (something) mediocre, indifferent | tlʼúnx̱u yáx̱ yatee → itʼs mediocre, indifferent • tlʼúnx̱u yáx̱ sh tudinook → itʼs/theyʼre not up to par, indifferent, apathetic (JL)
If you think these are the only three words that will be banned, you’ve got another thing coming. Wish more people had a backbone.

“We have languages coming into our country. These are languages—it’s the craziest thing—they have languages that nobody in this country has ever heard of. It’s a very horrible thing.”

This is the dumbest stuff. Seriously stupid.

Was a little too rough with my dough, and it didn't rise all the way. It probably didn't help that I was singing 🎶 rise up! rise up! 🎶 from Hamilton. The dough said nah.
Anybody notice this? When the bullyboy prez decided to confront the Governor of Maine, Janet Mills, she said, “I’m complying with state and federal laws,” and he showed his narcissism with, “I am the federal law,” but switched to “we” after blurting “I’m …”
