Over 40% of corn grown in Indiana is used to make ethanol that cars burn. One acre of corn yields about 16,500 vehicle-miles per year of ethanol, which sounds high until you realize that one acre of solar yields about 2,700,000 vehicle-miles per year: 16,000% more driving for a given plot of land.

Today, I’m on the edge of the crowd at the finish line of the #mainemarathon when I hear a clank. I turn around to see a that a guy had dropped his handgun onto the parking lot by accident. He sheepishly looks around and picks it up. What if the gun fired in the middle of the marathon finish line?

Hair loss really messes with guys. There's a subreddit where guys who are losing their hair decide to take the plunge and go bald, and literally every single one of them looks amazing. I have never once seen a bald guy and thought he looked bad.

congestion pricing so powerful it will destroy the Yankees and Mets forever. it's truly morning again in America.
crazy made-up tweet on congestion pricing from 2023

"My sources tell me that Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Japanese pitching phenom, was flabbergasted when he learned of congestion pricing coming to New York and this heavily influenced his decision to sign with the LA Dodgers.

"Ever since I was a child in Japan, I heard that America was land of the free and taxing people for simply driving did not align with this ideal" -- quoted provided by translator

so, uh, a NYC councilman is in the process of having a pretty unhinged crashout over abundance.

honestly kind of sad to see, especially since the law in question seems like the exact type of technocratic issue we should be trying to understand deeper rather than just flinging insults at people

This has to be a bit, right? I know these Ayn Rand bros think deregulation is the Lord's Prayer, but ffs safety isn't optional here.
Natural gas is volatile and dangerous and therefore only licensed professionals should do the work-that should be abundantly clear.

I wrote about the New York City Council's vote to make appliances more expensive by requiring a master plumber to handle the installation of any gas appliances -- and how regulations like this are an obstacle to Zohran's pledge to freeze th... Does any city in the United States, or the world, require a master plumber to install any gas appliance? Is there evidence of an epidemic of danger caused by this?

1) Name one city that requires a master plumber to replace a stove
2) If this is as dangerous as you say, we should see an epidemic of danger given that
*no other major city in the world requires this*! That's the point

Sir, I get your politician and you have never actually worked on anything with your hands but installing gas stoves is not like installing a brand new gasoline line or a natural gas pipeline. It is a simple twist on device that uses basic Teflon tape.

Vacant units come up a lot in discussions around the housing crisis

This is a good opportunity to go over what the data actually shows 🧵
shidass.bsky.social
Yeah, that’s what I thought. Keep your dishonest framing to yourself.

Klein’s housing policy fails to address the fundamental cause of this housing crisis.

In the US, there are currently 15mil vacant homes. There are ~650,000 homeless.

An opinion I have that seems to be unusual is that I really hate it when a piece of media shows me a content warning without asking if I want to see a content warning.

(I will generally forgive books for this since they don't have a lot of flexibility.)
