I was going to do a big Halloween thing like I did last year when I did my “31 Days of Vampire Movies” feature, but I just don’t have it in me right now to be that festive. Right now I’m thinking I may do something for the week of Halloween, but we’ll have to see. My heart is still so heavy.

Find a good moisturizer. Drink water. Stretch daily. Get the dog. Tell the people you love that you love them. Buy the silly thing sometimes. Take a drive to nowhere every once in a while. Buy yourself flowers. Feed strays. Give the benefit of the doubt, but also trust your intuition.

What I ended up with, instead of a pie crust, was a pretty decent ginger blondie type thingy, which will go great with apple butter. So while it was a failure as a cheesecake crust (I have no idea how what happened even happened) it still makes a decent dessert option. So yay.

So attempt #1 at a chestnut cheesecake did not remotely work out. I think cooking while I'm still woogy with a flu shot was not the smartest thing I could have done. I cook best when I'm drunk, not medicated, so this attempt is shelved and I will come at it again tomorrow, vodka in hand.

I just lost the dog I had for more than 15 years. She's been gone for less than a month, and the grief is killing me. And I would not trade that grief for anything, because that would mean giving up the 15 years I had with her, knowing the whole time one day I would lose her.
