Wow, a lot of new folks following me, so I suppose I should introduce myself! Hi, I'm Steph, an #actuallyautistic archivist. I work in a railroad museum which is stereotypical but also a dream job. I love getting involved with heritage rail when I can.
Look, in your defense I did this a few months ago with Umamusume so you're fine-

My bio on Tumblr even says "born 1989" in it. I was 22 when this person was born. They massively failed a spot check and assumed somehow that I was also a teenager.

My blog is older than they are. I've had it since 2009.

Today on Tumblr a 14-year-old told me I was something-coded and said I should join their something RP.

I am 36 years old, and I am not anything-coded because I am not fictional, I am a real person.

Don't talk to real people like that. It's messed up.

Unfortunately I have had to use said degree in really, really infuriating ways since 2016 but here we are. Sigh.

The tl;dr is that Sharpe got me into military history and I discovered that G-burg actually allowed me to focus on it and even minor in one specific conflict so I did. Sharpe is set during the Napoleonic Wars, but having a degree in a specific war was too much to pass up so I went for it.

Read/watched LOTR -> watched stuff LOTR cast was in -> really, REALLY liked Sharpe (Sean Bean miraculously doesn't die) -> went to Gettysburg College for degree in military history/Civil War Era Studies -> thesis professor said I should look into archives -> am now archivist with Master's degree
What’s the lore behind choosing your career path ?

It's genetic. I was born predisposed to being better at trains than the average human. I came out of the womb like this. The vaccines just helped me stay alive long enough to develop immunity and be able to type this at age 36, an age many of my ancestors likely did not reach.

I am autistic. I am not diseased, I am not contagious, and I am not ruining my family's life by existing. None of us do that. We're just born, and no one can consent to being born because they aren't able to produce complex thoughts yet, so why are we scapegoated for being brought into existence?

I'm so tired. I'm so, so tired of being considered the worse option over literally being dead. There are people who think I would be better if I was dead instead of being me. It is exhausting to go through your entire life like this and know that every person you tell could want that.
November 20, 2025 at 3:48 AM
Except it is an evidence-based claim and they think it's better to be dead than be like me.
CDC has overhauled its website to assert that “the claim ‘vaccines do not cause autism’ is not an evidence-based claim”

A shame I can't put "preeminent expert on rail travel in the Pokemon video game franchise" on a resume because at this point I think that is who I am

Mine is less happy. When I was a senior in high school, Tyler Clementi was a freshman.
Who was in your high school graduating class, +/- two years, that would be of interest?

For example, I took a basketball class and graduated w/all-time 8th man Jud Buechler (look it up), and may have followed Stephanie Seymour (not sure if she still WENT to school after I moved there).

STOP MAKING THE DISPATCHER HOLD ME, I DON'T LOVE HIM

Chiitan is out there doing it for real, you don't have to borrow the character for anything. That unhinged little thing loves trans people and it's so, so nice to see.
November 18, 2025 at 8:54 PM
My phone just autocorrected Chiitan to "Chattanooga" and all that likely says about me is that I don't shut up about trains.

Anyway, what I was going to say is that Chiitan is going far, far further than how people use Gritty's image at this point and it is WONDERFUL.

But if you love yourself, you can love both yourself and the person you love. Your love becomes twofold.
So take care of yourself.

NJ Transit's app is down right now due to this, actually, if you're in NJ and having a hard time commuting this morning...it's the same Cloudflare issue described here.
It may be a sign of my age but I remember a time when the Internet was designed so there wasn't a singular point of failure which took out half the Internet.

Cloudflare goes down way too often and way too many sites and resources use it
November 18, 2025 at 12:10 PM
Yeah, I had a feeling it was an NJ thing since it seems to be a consistent issue here for nearly everyone...
November 18, 2025 at 2:45 AM
Yep, NJ requires appointments, and they're typically booked out months in advance. I luckily can put in to have mine updated when I renew my license next year.
November 18, 2025 at 1:35 AM
I am genuinely unsure if it's by design or if every state government is just that bad at this.
November 18, 2025 at 12:14 AM
My driver's license expires next year so perhaps I will finally be able to get a REAL ID appointment this time if I book it literal months in advance, because they make this as inaccessible as possible.

Woke up with a mild headache and of course it has progressed to migraine status so work hasn't been fun today. Sigh.
