I would think, given the quantities involved, surely the costs are going to scale, even if the labor doesn’t??

My TOS boots were handmade and customized to my legs. They cost $400. An identical pair that was off-the-shelf cost $129 at the time.

I see no reason a mass-produced item should exceed that.

I too struggle with feeling isolated geographically. You’re wise to not fault people for not being “your vibe” but it’s valid to want to feel like you belong.

I don’t have a solution to offer, but I support your struggle.

💗 Happy Mary Sue Day 🧛🏻‍♀️

This is a love letter to fandom, to those who stay up late reading fic, who still argue for your favorite ship, who found themselves in stories.

not yIjegh! Never surrender! Chicago is a city of big shoulders & bigger warrior hearts. Through the end of October, I will donate merch & music sale proceeds to 2 organizations -- #ExtraLife and the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant & Refugee Rights. Link in bio or in thread below.
Chicago doesn't give in or give up. We are a city with big shoulders and bigger warrior hearts. We stand with our neighbors. not majegh. We never surrender. Through the end of October, all proceeds from merch and music sales will be split between Illinois Coalition for Immigrant & Refugee Rights and Extra Life Chicago supporting Chicago's Lurie Children's Hospital. Designs include my Klingon "This is fine" featuring a redhaired Klingon in a firey room with a bloodwine mug saying jIQaQ which means "I am good" in Klingon and my Klingon Pop Warrior emote holding an Extra Life inspired game controller with wings surrounded by blue & red Chicago stars. Additional designs available on my merch site. Link is in my bio.

Banned Book Week was practically a holiday for me in high school, thanks to being taught by a Trekkie who took history and censorship seriously.

Neither of us ever thought we’d get to this point… though knowing we stand with George gives us hope.

On a blue background with book designs, white and yellow text reads, “‘Please stand with me in opposing censorship, so that we all can find ourselves — and each other — in books.’ - George Takei; actor, author, and activist. Banned Books Week.” HRC logo appears.

This would continue until Groucho finally fell asleep, at which point, Cooper would quietly let himself out of the house.

I really wonder what those two talked about on those nights. 2/2

Fact: In his last years, Groucho Marx was neighbors with… Alice Cooper.

Groucho suffered from insomnia, and his nights were often very lonely. AC was one of the few people he could lean on. He would call Alice at 2AM, and the two would watch old movie and drink beer. /1

Aaron Lore:

I got into an argument with my third grade teacher, insisting that “per” was a word. She said I was wrong. I was said to be disruptive as a result.

This isn’t a hard-and-fast rule, but if a sentence starts with ‘per’ it’s usually a bummer.

I legitimately love freeze dried ice cream

Possible hot take: I never minded the accessories being weird colors, but thought it was tacky that the phasers all had orange “beams” permanently attached to them, basically making them lightsabers

If you want to collect 90s Playmates figures, the most aggravating part will be trying to get the “Normal” version of any given character. You’ll be tripping over stacks of Picard as a Romulan, Geordi in dress uniform, Data as a Park Ranger, etc….

I always feel like pointing out that Xbox started out as MS’ way of grabbing the “living room PC” market— a trend that never took off and was ultimately answered by streaming apps. For a decade, xbox was an answer to a problem that didn’t exist. What’s the endgame on that for MS?

Looking at towels online. Some are marked “washable”

… is there a type of towel that is not washable? If so, who needs to be fired?

I recall an early AI pitch involved a demo of someone using AI to order a pizza. The host prompted “Find the most popular pizza place nearby and order the most popular item on the menu.”

NO HUMAN BEING HAS EVER ORDERED PIZZA THAT WAY, IN THE ENTIRE HISTORY OF PIZZA!!

CyberSecurity in 2025 seems themed around using technology to fill the gap in poor user behavior. It’s ineffective at best and counterproductive at worst

October always gives me time to be on the outside of a fandom. I’m not a horror fan, but I enjoy watching horror fans get really excited. Meanwhile, I still get to enjoy horror-adjacent SFF like Ernest Scared Stupid, Men in Black, Ghostbusters, and Young Frankenstein.

There are seasons of fandom.
