The two types of writers:

- I have created a cast of multilayered characters, and a deep, rich and storied setting. I have no idea what to do with any of it.

- I have created a weaving narrative of twists and turns, betrayals and intrigue. Each character can be summarised in one word.

Yeppp. I'm pretty okay to be grumbly about shit but often times if you point this out, you're seen as the one taking things too sensitively/the agitator, which sucks because the real issue is the unspoken social norms being unevenly enforced!

Yep! It's more likely to happen to rare pair lovers or people who like less popular dynamics and that has a... Idk what's the word. Echoing effect? Like it can contribute to the animosity held towards popular things. Which makes for a very miserable dynamic if left unchecked.

I too have spent time practicing my "yes and" skills to make sure it exists within the spectrum given. I think it's a valid frustration and I think a lot of people experience this frustration but I don't think it's always registered as like, potential drama gasoline.

There's also the secret topic swerve, where you don't even know you're doing it. This is due to the proliferation of unspoken, popular headcanons that are in conversation with each other.

And if a headcanon is not enjoyed by the OP, for whatever reason, you get the same social debuff.

I have no commentary on the validity of this dynamic. I think most people understand abruptly changing a topic can be rude but don't always translate that to fandom minutae, or don't clock reblog chains as having to stay on topic.

But honestly realizing this can keep you out of so much shit.

This goes double in top/bottom discourse and one of the reasons it can escalate so quickly. "Zoro would be so hot getting dicked down" "oh man... Getting dicked down... That should happen to Sanji" is basically planting a seed of deep anger for many a person.

Did you know that if someone posits a headcanon or a Blorbo and you respond to it, but posit a different Blorbo/different headcanon, many people will find this rude and hate you and see you as what is wrong with fandom.

Hyperbole aside, this is a big sticking point but rarely plainly verbalized.

It will never happen because most people see them as contextless genres based on aesthetic and tropes, but in some ways that makes it an excellent example of how something looks when it's actually normalized.

The original dead dove term was coined to describe "we're wallowing and not unpacking the implications". "Hydra trash party" was cited as inspo for it. Because of this I think more historical aus like cowboy aus and regency aus would do better to have a tagging scheme such as this.
