Zhuang et al. define climate-resilient zones with global conservation consensus as marine climate refuges. They find that only 14% of marine protected areas and other effective area-based conservation...

"What we see on the street is just the tip of the iceberg. There's an entire world of homelessness that has been rendered invisible."

I really appreciate that @pbsnews.org ended the interview with this graphic.

It captures, in the simplest and starkest terms, the brutal arithmetic driving this country's homelessness catastrophe.

Thing is, we DID hear about it at his confirmation hearing.

Every single senator who voted to confirm Hegseth knew he held these views about the laws of war.

They voted to confirm him anyway.
Everyone should read this terrifying thread about Hegseth’s published views wrt war crimes. It’s pretty fucking radical …. We needed to hear about this in his confirmation hearing.
A chapter in Hegseth’s book is literally titled “More Lethality, Less Lawyers.”

It’s almost as if there were signs!

Jack Goldsmith is not some liberal Dem squish. He ran OLC for GWB and has what one would generally describe as a “conservative” (in its pre-Trump usage) view of a lot of constitutional provisions, but he is principled and he says flatly that these strikes are murder.
Professor Jack Goldsmith, head of George W. Bush Justice Department's Office of Legal Counsel (OLC):

"I do not believe that even the Bondi OLC could legally justify the events the Post reported."

"There can be no conceivable legal justification for what the Washington Post reported."
A Dishonorable Strike
Indulging all assumptions in favor of the administration’s boat strikes, killing helpless men is murder

The reality, of course, is that Miller and a significant portion of Trump’s base are the ones who failed to assimilate to America’s post-WWII culture of multi-racial democracy & religious pluralism…and they are now using their power to destroy that once dominant (and still popular) American culture.
Stephen Miller is now arguing that assimilation is fundamentally impossible and that certain cultures are not compatible with Western civilization

Ukraine is buying us time, and we’re wasting it.

Importantly, a state that no longer grants its corporations the power to spend in elections also denies that power to corporations chartered in the other 49 states, if they wish to do business in that state.

Dressing with respect -- whether it's a pair of jeans and a decent shirt, I would encourage people to maybe dress a little better which encourages us to maybe behave a little better. Let's try not to wear slippers and pajamas as we eat pie.

The White House doesn’t offer a plausible legal rationale because the orders are illegal.

Various lawyers wouldn’t sign off on it because the orders are illegal.

Trump flipped out at veterans saying don’t follow illegal orders because he’s giving illegal orders.

Real Occam’s razor situation here.
On the patently unlawful boat strikes

It's hard for USGs to claim ‘mistake of law’ or ‘advice of counsel’ – when they’re firing lawyers who wouldn't sign off on the strikes.

WaPo's new revelations on firings or removals:

1) CIA General Counsel
2) NSC Legal Adviser
3) CIA Mission Center’s lawyer

White House blew past legal concerns in deadly strikes on drug boats
The Trump administration sidestepped skeptical lawyers across national security agencies as it pursued a military campaign against alleged narcotraffickers, officials say.

Voters were so profoundly moved by his words... that they gave his opponents a supermajority in Congress, and the nation got the Fourteenth Amendment.
