Looking for character art? I’m an artist who specializes in fantasy illustration! I love telling stories through my designs. Dungeons and Dragons lover? Fantasy author? Request a commission and check out my full portfolio here! amandacase.art There is no AI used at any stage of my process
Question I get all the time:

>I’m a beginner artist, how do I get commissions/clients?

This took me shockingly long time to figure out. When you put all your skill points in the Art Tree, you forget about the important business skills you need. So, how to fix this?

-You’re Still Allowed to Find Joy-
Yes, the world feels heavy. Yes, it’s important to stay informed. But despair doesn’t solve anything—and it doesn’t feed your spirit. You are still allowed to laugh. To paint. To dance in the kitchen and hug your kids tight. Joy isn’t ignorance—it’s resistance.

-Your Brain Wasn't Built for Constant Noise-
The scroll never stops, the pings never end—but you can. Step outside. Let silence be something sacred again. You don’t need to earn rest. You’re allowed to unplug, to breathe, to be without an audience. Your mind needs quiet to remember who you are.

Masterpieces aren't created instantly; they develop through layers and revisions. It's easy to overlook the messy beginnings of a finished work, whether a painting or a novel. Behind every polished piece are discarded ideas and hours of effort. Persevere, as the best work requires time.

Don’t wait for perfection to create. The act of creating is what makes it meaningful.

I used to hesitate before starting a piece, afraid I’d ruin it. But the truth is, waiting for perfection means never beginning at all. Every sketch, every rough draft, every failed attempt teaches you something.

🎨 Give me 3 words that describe your protagonist!

Example:
🖤 Brooding | Reluctant | Cursed
🌿 Soft | Curious | Wild
⚔️ Loyal | Reckless | Haunted

I love creating characters that look as compelling as they feel in the story. Drop your 3 words below and let’s chat! 👇

📖 Authors, when you write your characters, do you picture them in your head? Or do you struggle to see them clearly?

Having a visual reference helps bring them to life in ways that words alone can’t. That’s where character art comes in! 🎨

📚 Character art enhances reader connection by visualizing characters before reading. It's eye-catching for promotions, ideal for special editions and merch, and boosts story engagement. Share your main character for illustration help! 🎨

Motivation hack for a productive day:

Brain dump: Use an app like Todoist or just write things down.
Do it daily: Jot tasks down at the beginning or end of the day—or as they come to you!

I’ve had a bit of a block with portraits recently. Simple shapes and contours. Gotta get in that observation practice too.

Whenever you get an art block sometimes you just need to go back to basics

What a great turn out for the Raven Fest charity event at Raven Forge Games! I’m so grateful to have been given the opportunity to be a part of the charity. My auction item was able to raise so much money for Family Promises ♥️

Please!! You don’t need to apologize for sending me AI images as references. I am not offended. Pinterest and other image search platforms are full of them and I’m not expecting you to be able to differentiate. Don’t stress, you’re already doing the right thing by paying an artist ♥️

Meet the artist: 👩‍🎨
* Mom of 2 littles who keep me very busy
* Obsessed with the idea of being able to play Final Fantasy music on piano
* Drinks more caffeine than water because it makes my brain tingle
* Loves creepy horror gameplay but would never play them myself because I’d be too scared…

I HAVE to know. How many authors out there use to write on a fanfiction site? I’ll be the first to raise my hand. I definitely wrote an Inuyasha fanfiction about Miroku and Sango as a kid. I wish I could go back and see if it’s any good. Hahaha

Playing around with this scene a bit. My first sketch I felt like the character ended up hiding too much of the background. I love his big floppy hat, but it does get in the way a bit. I'll probably try a few different mood passes next with some color.

Sketching out a scene from my children's book about a magical wizard cat and his fellowship. He's a little 'cat-astrophic' or a bit of 'cat-astrophe ' if you catch what I'm saying. This room is still a bit too organized for my taste still though... I'll have to mess it up a bit more 😼

Just finished some beautiful character work of Ondorie for an amazing world builder @jannis_pantelatos. They have so many characters with rich stories, if you love in depth worlds similar to Lord of Rings you should definitely check them out. More on Ondorie Nesmer in thread!

Watching Record of Lodoss War for the first time! And although I prefer the sub, I did have a lot of fun sketching characters like Deed and character adjacent portraits in that classic early anime style while watching dubbed. The style of old school anime is truly peak.

Sitting down to create, and your is just...EMPTY!? Where did all my great ideas go? Why does my brain feel like its running on Windows 98'? (Some of you heard the click, whirr sound of your 512 RAM limit clicking on and you are my people) How do I motivate?

The hardest thing about being a professional artist, is allowing some days to be "unproductive". It's okay to sit and sketch and practice fundamentals without the goal of creating a final product. It can feel like you haven't done anything 'productive'. In actuality you are still moving forward.
