4. Saying it again because of how important it is. Market research means knowing your clients!!! Don’t just contact without learning something about them!

3. Show them and tell them why they should pick or care about you. Maybe you have a personal story that resonates with them, or maybe your art fits something specific about their needs. Again, market research is VERY important.

2. Contact people directly. There is a sea of artists out there. Don’t expect people to come find you.

1. Learn about Market Research: Who are the clients you want to work with? It sounds counterintuitive, but you want to start as specifically as possible. When you narrow down your advertisement audience you get MORE interest

DON’T: Abandon or ghost clients. Kind of obvious I know, but even if you aren’t available to respond that day or next, let them know when you can give them your full attention. You are unlikely to get recommended or contacted again if you don’t communicate

DO: Create a newsletter for your clients to subscribe to! It doesn’t have to be updated super frequently, but it helps you maintain a list of contacts and keeps anyone interested updated on your work without needing to rely on algorithms or trends.

DON’T: Take it personally if a client can’t afford your prices. Find out what their budget is and give them options that would fit their budget. They might still turn you down, but by remaining professional, they may come back with a different project or when they have more funds.

DO: Remain professional at ALL TIMES. No matter what a client says, respond in a professional matter. Text gets lost in translation all the time. This doesn’t mean being a doormat though. If a client doesn’t feel right for you, turn them down, or terminate the contract in a PROFESSIONAL way.

Reduce anxiety: Writing things down means no more stressing about forgetting.
Plan beats panic: When it’s time to work, your tasks are ready to tackle—no blank-page panic.
Embrace progress: Even if you don’t finish everything, crossing off tasks feels amazing!
