Made a little browser extension to translate numbers into words when you toggle a button. I've been thinking about it since listening to @accessiblenumbers.bsky.social Accessible Numbers podcast.

I haven't quite cracked big numbers yet but just wondering if this would actually be useful?
A BBC news screenshot with content that contains numbers like "900 people". There is a button in the corner with the label "Number to words" The same BBC news article with the numbers translated into words for example 900 in numerals people has become nine hundred people in words.

Hello, I’m trying to make payslips meaningful for people who struggle with numbers and financial information. Want to help?

Accessible financial information is a human right.

Thanks to @nexerdigital.bsky.social for co-hosting the event with me.

So happy the podcast landed well. Priyanca’s quote is my favourite.

I’m doing something at the end of April around meaningful payslips. It’s a free and everyone is welcome.

New guidance on creating a dyscalculia-friendly workplace by the @dyscalculianetwork.bsky.social 👏.

Alt text. Mindmap-style diagram. Text in the centre says "What are the indicators of Dyscalculia." Text around the outside says "Poor memory for facts and procedures. An inability to subtise even very small quantities. Weakness in visual and spatial orientation. Difficulties with learning to tell the time and understanding time. Slow processing speed. Difficulty sequencing. Directional confusion. Difficulties in word problems and multi-step calculations. An inability to count backwards reliably. Difficulty with language. Weak strategies: for example counting in 1s. Inability to notice patterns. Weakness in both short-term and long-term memory. Problems with all aspects of money. Inability to generalise. An inability to estimate whether a numerical answer is reasonable. Poor number sense."

Big thanks to @accessiblenumbers.bsky.social for having me on the Accessible Numbers Podcast - felt like a maths therapy session ❤️

We chatted about common accessibility barriers in design patterns and practical ways a design system can help to make numbers more inclusive #accessibility #dyscalculia

Can anyone suggest a strategy for turning old presentations into accessible and useful documents, please?

8 of my old presentations are available online but not fully accessible. Some information is now out of date too.

I can relate to this Helen. Definitely hoarding money. Sometimes I struggle to spend on things like toothpaste.

Those skills sound sensible and helpful. I'm reusing some old clothes to make blankets and avoid them going to landfill.

I found it best to listen to the podcast in the background instead of giving it my full attention.

This episode has reached so many people. Thank you.

This is so important. I'm reasonably comfortable now, but my behaviour, anxiety and despair remain the same.

I listened to this brilliant conversation between Ray & Laura. Thoughtful & brave.

I'd recommend everyone listen to this

Lovely example of inclusive content design (for dyscalculics especially).

Screenshot of a form about reporting highways problems. There’s one question and 3 options. The question ass “what is the diameter of the pothole?” Option 1: Less than 30cm (smaller than a dinner plate). Option 2: More than 30cm (larger than a dinner plate). Option 3: I don’t know.

Exactly. I was watching an imbedded YouTube video on a webpage. Got about half way through and then expanded the frame.

Why is that? Curious.

Does anyone else catch themselves leaning towards the screen to read/watch content instead of maximising the content. Either by zooming in or using the full screen button?
