Yep, sounds just like I imagine a Fedora-based distro would!

As you said, it's a mess. Add the fact it constantly tries to screw with my Linux installs and yeah, it can stay disabled for all I care.

Aaand there goes my interest for the game.

As a marketer, I think it's important to distinguish between successful marketing and just baiting people into interacting with you. While the latter might get you some attention on social media, I doubt it will actually boost your sales/wishlists.

As my last work week of 2025 starts, I realize I worked on over 40 new games this year, 40+ titles that were all unique in their own way.

Regardless of how messed up and sometimes unfair this industry is, there are some incredibly creative people out there! ♥️

Made it? This is the weekend I put up the Christmas tree. The war has just begun, Bailey. It has just begun.
December 12, 2025 at 1:57 PM
Funnily enough, so do xenophobia and most radical ideologies. It's all just grasping at straws to support otherwise flimsy arguments.
December 12, 2025 at 1:55 PM
By definition, the moment you have someone whose stakes influence your creative process, you're no longer independent. So yeah, I'd say any game that has a publisher technically isn't indie.

As for EX33, I'd struggle not to call a $10M budget game AAA but the AA category also exists.
December 12, 2025 at 1:53 PM
It's not just a holier than thou kind of approach either. If we start considering megateams and multi-million dollar productions indie, there's no way smaller studios can effectively compete.
December 12, 2025 at 1:05 PM
And, again extremely respectfully, these people might need to review their definition of indie. Because if having a publisher no longer disqualifies you and having someone drop a whole wad of cash on getting celebrities and marketing is fine, then what makes a game indie?
December 12, 2025 at 1:04 PM
Respectfully, I disagree. One issue doesn't make the other less important.

Does a game that reportedly cost "less than $10 M" to make fit in the same category as titles made by 4 ppl in a basement? No.

Should we accept gen-AI in games? ALSO no.

And these should both be central to the discourse

Sorry to hear you're going through this. Losing a pet f****g sucks!
December 10, 2025 at 10:01 PM
Ah yeah, the famously inclusive and friendly Saudi Arabia!

Wouldn't be surprised if they end up paying people to inflate those numbers. Anybody willing to go of their own volition (and sponsor this in the process) is either a horrible human being or happy to commit PR suicide.
December 10, 2025 at 10:00 PM
Absolutely! I already had a couple of the devs I am working/have worked with ask about this and "stay as far from it as you possibly can" is really the only suggestion I have.

Not sure what they were thinking when they went with this, tbh
December 10, 2025 at 9:55 PM
Between this and the slew of games being outright banned from the platform for arbitrary reasons, it feels like the best time to start looking for an alternative to Steam is now.
December 10, 2025 at 9:47 PM
Every time I secretly hope we're getting closer to an altered carbon kind of reality... And every time it turns out it's some sort of AI slop.

Hmm.. @henrystockdale.com leaving games media has to be some sort of "end of an era" moment. I think you were one of the longest-standing contacts on my pitch lists!

Best of luck with your next adventure, and ofc welcome to the dark side :D
So... I still can't believe I'm writing this. After three years with @UploadVR.com, it's surreal to say I'm stepping down after next week. Happy to say this was my choice, and I'm beyond thrilled to announce I'm joining @futurefriendsgames.com on January 12th! 👀 - medium.com/@terranauts9...
An Announcement
For the last six and a half years, I've been working in games media in varying capacities. Now it's time for something new.

Yeah... We just bought an old farmhouse in the mountains as a side project and honestly the idea of packing up and just moving there has never sounded more attractive.

I could still do my job while avoiding most of these assholes AND live an objectively better life.

This is great news, especially as more and more smaller outlets that routinely covered indie games are struggling to stay afloat.
Over at Kotaku, we are trying to cover at least one cool indie game every week. It's called Indie of the Week!

I've been seeing this too and honestly I am so lost at this point...
December 4, 2025 at 10:23 AM
Obviously nobody lifted a finger to help, the driver closed the doors and drove away (she was on the bus at that point) and an old lady even said "you shouldn't have answered him, it's your fault you got spit on".

Which is quite a common occurrence at this point and I don't even know what to say.
December 4, 2025 at 10:15 AM
Yeeep! She called me in tears to say a guy first bumped into her while getting off the bus, then attacked her and tried to kick her because "she wouldn't let him get off" (even though he was already off the bus by that point).

And then apparently he spit on her face while the whole bus watched.
December 4, 2025 at 10:13 AM
"Why are you so adamant on leaving the city?"

Well my partner was attacked, spat on and almost dragged off a bus today for no apparent reason other than the fact she exists - all while other passengers watched and didn't lift a finger to help.
