Schreiner asks everyone to help him out and encourage others to get back to caring and supporting one and other.

Stonehenge says that their frontline peeps get paid half of what they could make in private practice. Group homes are being sold off, services are frozen, how can we care for people. Ontario is better than this, and Guelph is better than this, but its not being reflected in our politics.

Schreiner wraps up by saying that he was motivated to get into politics to deal with the climate crisis, but we've got a crisis in caring. It's hard to think about the end of the world when you're thinking about paying the bills at the end of the month. Our care systems are collapsing.

Schreiner says they can put money into Marineland to keep the whales alive and well, while we're waiting for permanent solutions.

CDNgov put kibosh on sending them to China. There are sanctuaries in B.C. and the Arctic though, also there's one for the James Bay proposed, but that's where ONgov wants a pipeline to go (even though tankers can't sail there).
adamadonaldson.bsky.social
One more one more Q: Marineland? Schreiner says he's been fighting this issue for 15 years, pushing the gov't and now Ford is outraged. The big challenge is where can they go. A sanctuary is being built in Eastern Canada, but it's not ready.

...and there are some handy salt caves in Kincardine. Also, Toyota, who has a plant down the street in Cambridge, wants to be in the hydrogen business. So we're well position in the region and the province.
adamadonaldson.bsky.social
One more question from a man who's starting to start a company to create hydrogen power from ocean, and he couldn't get meeting with PM Carney. Schreiner says he can't talk about *that* project, but ON has big opportunity to take part in that industry because you can store hydrogen in salt caves...

First zone is in Dresden where a dump is being proposed that now doesn't require an EA and its right on top of a creek. Schreiner says he did a town hall in the area and everyone that showed up was a Conservative. It's hard to get ppl fired up unless their community is effected.

Q: What's the status on Bill 5? Schreiner says the most concerning is the power to declare "special economic zones", which gives premier and cabinet extraordinary powers. There'a a galling lack of oversight. "Donald Trump would love to have this power and you can't fight Trump by being him."

Lisa from Schreiner's office notes that you no longer have to go to Toronto to get your seniors status on the Presto Card, you can now go to Waterloo.

Schreiner says there's a petition here for weekend GO service. Metrolinx tells him there's insufficient demand so he and Ashley Clancey are trying to overwhelm them with shows of support for the idea. We need more/better regional transit.
adamadonaldson.bsky.social
Next: Has Schreiner worked on anything that will help streamline transit, so we're using Presto instead of multiple apps. Schreiner says that is rolling out, but it would help if ONgov covered 50% of operating costs like before. It would help because our transit here "kind of sucks."

He's also been pushing for more stable infrastructure funding so that City's can take the pressure off DC and then lower taxes and fees for new construction.
adamadonaldson.bsky.social
New Q: What role does the ONgov have in getting 6,000 approved units realized? Schreiner says the one thing they can do is infrastructure investment, which is something they've been successfully doing. He knows you're sick of construction, but that's key.
adamadonaldson.bsky.social
...fuels. We could be using Canadian steel to build more wind turbines, but instead we're using U.S. tech to build small nuclear reactors, building gas plants to process NG from the U.S.
adamadonaldson.bsky.social
Adrienne asks about amplifying climate action. Schreiner says he's asked this a lot and it means meeting people where they're at. Youth unemployment and general unemployment is going up, but all the ONgov's projects are about 10 years away. There's $2.2 tn in renewable, twice as much for fossil...

Someone from a physiotherapy clinic asks about support for because they help a lot of people, and cost is always an obstacle in terms of how much they can charge through OHIP. Schreiner says it's a similar issue that he advocated for with optometrists, so he's happy to build those strategies.

Another woman asks about the high cost of rent, as an immigrant she's really struggling. Schreiner says cost is a consequence of low supply, which is why he's been fighting for missing middle projects. And yet, market supply costs make it hard for private developers to get into game on affordability

-The Landlord Tenant Board needs fixed, and we need more deeply affordable housing. He talked to GW Women in Crisis who note that one of the biggest barriers to women getting away from IPV is no available affordable housing. There's been 30 years of near 0 investment in that front.
adamadonaldson.bsky.social
Morgan notes that she was in a situation where she was subletting from someone and was being affected by multiple chemical sensitivities, and she's not alone in that boat. Schreiner agrees saying that a lot of people are in that boat, and we need more housing and a fairer system for renters.
adamadonaldson.bsky.social
Schreiner adds that it's why that the community has put so much emphasis on getting supportive housing built, which is successfully making an impact at Shelldale where so far five people have been able to stabilize into independent living.

Schreiner says the jails are "grossly" overpopulated and 80% in jail now are people awaiting trail. He notes that ONgov passed law to fine people in encampments $10k, which can lead to putting those people in jail if they don't pay, which would cost $140k. In others words, its cheaper to house ppl.
