Started watching a movie called The Savage Bees, and they started by killing a dog, and then a child, so these bees really mean it.

The Savage Bees (1976)
In this horror-drama the festive fun of the annual Mardi Gras celebration is brought to a halt when a swarm of African killer bees escape from a foreign freighter.

I just watched Shivers last night, which was great, but also made me wonder why I wasn’t watching The Brood, which I think is Cronenberg’s best film.

Did you know the first thanksgiving celebrated by Europeans in North America happened in Canada?
Or that the Indigenous celebrated autumn harvests long before Europeans arrived?
Why do we celebrate Thanksgiving a month earlier than the United States?
This is the story.

🧵1/10
A festive Thanksgiving dinner table featuring a roasted turkey as the centerpiece, surrounded by an array of dishes including green beans, stuffing, sliced ham, and a pumpkin pie. The table is decorated with pumpkins, sunflowers, candles, and autumnal flowers, with wine glasses and plates set for a meal.

Happy #BookshopDay! Why not get some of your holiday shopping done early? Order or pre-order books from your local indie before the busy rush?

Psst: you can include this animated gif in your own Bluesky posts - when searching for a gif, look for [at-sign]debbieohi + keyword (like bookstore)
a blue sign that says shop from your local indie bookshop now

The Shining is a masterclass in cinematography. Amazing audio, music, camera angles, colours, it's fantastic. A must-watch every October.

It’s a much better rule than the other way around. That way you always get the treat you want on your birthday.

Happy birthday! Now I understand why you made the butter tarts.

Weekend reading! The final book in my goal to read all of Stephen King’s novels in chronological order.

I guess technically three floors isn’t a high rise - but many people seem to think of these types of low rise mid density building as trash living also.

Proudly living in a vertical slum over here, which also has at least three families living in three of the nine units in this building…. Plus the two other vertical slums in the same complex around me also have families.

Some people really need a paradigm shift.

Great thread about the many topics that came up at tonight's townhall.

I'm a day late for the full moon, but if I learned anything from Buffy The Vampire Slayer it's that werewolves turn for a few days before and after the full moon, so I'm still good.

Now watching The Wolf Man (1941)

The Wolf Man (1941)

Also, it's very, very hard to watch this with new eyes since I know every beat of it so well. I'm trying to watch for so many of the Hitchcockisms I've started watching for, but I just get lost in my love of the movie instead.

Gawd, Anthony Perkins is so cute in this film. At least in the beginning. Like legitimately adorable.

I have been avoiding the ones I've already seen to watch new ones, but I just picked up a blu-ray release of Psycho, with the original uncut theatrical release included... and so that's my Hitchcock for this week.

I love this film.
cinn48.bsky.social
I've been watching every single Hitchcock movie this year since it's the 100th anniversary of his first feature length film, and he has only 52 completed and preserved films, so one per week.

It's October 3rd! You know what that means.... it's the 22nd anniversary of Lily Kane's murder.

I’ve reported on the Doug Ford gov’t’s environmental record for 7 years and I remain concerned that Ontario’s only climate plan is a 2018 draft the auditor says isn’t evidence-based — and the gov’t now admits it won’t release a new plan or set stronger emissions-reduction targets
