Either bsky has bugged out or they have changed something, because now my main feed (NOT the Discover feed) is full of people I don’t follow. Ack.

Went into The Big City, did some shopping and ate some cake, and have returned home damp and exhausted. I shall not leave the house again for days and days I think.

Good thread.
When you see it all laid out, after point after points, it's mind-blowing. And you'll notice that didn't even get into how AI steals from writers and artists. There's so much. How anyone, confronted with all of this, could support AI is baffling

This is kinda fascinating! I'm blocking 173 accounts but being blocked by 445! Interesting that the blocks seem to be in batches of dates, presumably when one of my posts escaped containment.
There are services that can tell you that; I use clearsky.app. This is a reminder that the federated architecture of Bluesky means that who one blocks is available information (it would need to be to carry over to other sites on the same protocol). If this public aspect bothers you, mute instead.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone I know who celebrates it! I am enjoying all the food pix. As someone who could REALLY use a 4-day weekend, I am... jealous.

Dang, that PowerBook 500 on his desk. A mighty fine machine (honestly, still is, for a vintage computer).

Okay so the Pomera is a DELIGHT, and I shall post more about it with some pix when I get the chance. This week is not a week for "the chance", unfortunately. Argh! Onwards!
Attention, attention.

Excellent, honest thread on the reality of being a writer today.
I'm not the only author I know who has a huge surfeit of ideas for books that we would love to write and send out into the world if only we had the time to write them.

What if Googling something used 10,000 times more energy and yeilded significantly less reliable results? A trillion dollar idea!
If we can survive the integration of AI into everything, I'm confident that we'll also live through the removal of AI integration from almost everything. Because it's not fit for purpose and is a catastrophic waste of resources to provide things which we already have.

The title of this incredible film is also a great example of the attributive rather than possessive use of the particle の no.

七人の侍
shichi nin no samurai
seven people ATTR samurai
“seven people who are samurai”
In today's exciting episode of I Am Learning Japanese Or So Help Me, I glanced up from my computer & realised I could read* my Seven Samurai** print.

*OK I did look up 侍 but I assumed it meant samurai, which it does. Such detective work!

**I mean YES it does say Seven Samurai BUT see alt text...

Had to take a stealth photo, but this has got to be a record for the earliest Easter Eggs have gone into stores, surely.

(I guess Cadbury's are arguing they are an all-year product now).

one of the coolest things about ChatGPT is how you can actually just never use it. you can fill your whole entire life with simply not once using it. it's incredible.
