Impossible to communicate to people that once you decide that a group more vulnerable than you can be sacrificed in the name of your own safety or interests that you have already entered into an tacit agreement that you can also be sacrificed in the interests of a group less vulnerable than you.

I urge colleagues with relevant expertise to co-sign this letter against the narrow interpretation of biology which seeks to exclude trans, NB, intersex, & gender non-conforming people from policy.

#BNA2025 showed that Neuroscience is a diverse & inclusive field that understands biology is complex.

Just to be clear, this is a violation of the fundamental ethical principle in clinical trial design called "equipoise."

Equipoise means that no-one is exposed to excess risk just to test the therapy. That's specifically *why* vaccine trials don't use placebo arms.

Ethical violation as POLICY.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr will require all new vaccines to undergo placebo testing, WaPo reports
U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr intends to shift the way vaccines are tested, The Washington Post reported on Wednesday, citing a spokesperson from the HHS.

Maybe, just maybe, we need to accelerate neither the adoption of AI for scientific discovery nor science itself. Maybe what science actually needs is to slow down to breathe more oxygen instead of hyperventilating itself into asphyxiation. Or AI can get us there more quickly of course.

As a somatosensory neuroscientist & microneurographer I understand the mechanisms & yet I remain completely baffled by the amount of *attention* the movement of a single arm hair in the wind can demand.

Why is it so important for me to know it is moving? Why does my brain want me to care so much?

That would be pretty much all of my students who study full time AND hold down jobs that require at least 20 hours per week. And there are those who study, have jobs, and have caring responsibilities. But yes Isabel, the problem is that young people are "selfish and idle".
You know who’s responsible for all the world’s problems? Young people.
