Good LORD some of the replies have shit taste in musicals. If you are making recs for someone just getting the bug, don't put them onto Brigadoon or Rent. Camelot? Cats? Maybe for the seasoned nerd but not the way to get somebody humming along. And My Fair Lady is famously mostly talk-singing. Sigh.

they're just bandwagoners at heart - going where they see other people going, makes it so they don't have to think about it so hard. When they have obvious in-group and out-group markers like three-letter acronyms and checklists it makes it even simpler.
