For those who don't know me: I exist in a liminal space of wanting to engage and talk to people about interesting things but abhor being observed. It makes my skin crawl. As a result, I guard how people interact with and about me fairly tightly.

If you're not sure and you want to be careful, ask.
I want a new Home Alone where Culkin is a divorced dad who shares custody of a daughter with his ex. A miscommunication results in mom going on a work trip expecting him to pick up the kid while dad thinks they went together. Kid left in high-tech penthouse. Mom's scummy ex-bf breaks in to rob her.

Friend: You... haven't said anything for a minute since I told you what I did.

Me: Yes, but that's because I'm a person prone to extremes.

Friend: You don't seem like it right now.

Me: That's because at this moment I'm being extremely patient with the bullshit you're on right now.🤣

I love that someone shared a list of "who's your favorite vampire" and it included two entries from True Blood and neither was Bill Compton. This is good and right and choosing him is a red flag.🤣

Sometimes folks bring up a notable but obscure person and I resist the urge to say "hey, that person's a piece of shit" because they aren't singing their praises and really only incidentally mentioned them at all.

Brought to you by: John Kricfalusi who made Ren and Stimpy is a full blown pedophile.

One of the funniest things a friend of mine said to a now ex-boyfriend: We both work full-time jobs and you want me to make you dinner and wash your clothes when I get home? You may want to be a civil war reenactor but I don't think roleplaying being a house servant is going to be my hobby, sorry. 🤣

A fascinating thought for writers: How your cultures ornament and augment their environment says a lot about where their culture places their idea of value. Societies that cover things in complex, intricate motifs are telling you that *labor* is the greatest form of wealth, rather than materials.

I'm convinced some writers misuse certain adjectives because of what I call "proximal odor" - they are frequently found adjacent to the noun and feel like they have the right "funk" for the vibe. Example: Calling a bandit "craven" when what you really meant is "depraved" or "odious." Not synonyms.

The next time that you're sweating the price of cheese, remember we have a national vault so full of 1.4 billion lbs of cheese that we've had to repeatedly expand it. Why do we have it? Because the government subsidizes cheese sales to help dairy farmers and then just... sits on the purchases?

I've spent a lot of time counselling adults about how to deal with children and one of the most basic talks we have is "no one knows which memories a child will bury and which will become formative, so treat every moment you have like it will be a pillar of their existence and be prepared if it is."
adults tend to think children are not capable of complex thoughts or feelings and are incredibly cruel to them as a result. a little baffling as we all have been kids, and i'd wager most of us became familiar with suffering at an early age.

The new Spider-man movies have been such a weird experience for me because I generally like Holland's performances as Peter Parker, but have a sincere vendetta against a writing room that has managed to make every single Spider-man movie a confession of his incompetence and self-destructive habits.

Look, I know of people with kinks around amputation and sharing virulent diseases, but somehow this is the one that makes me worry about the individuals involved. Are they okay? Do they need help?
The women drawn to RFK Jr. see an intoxicating cocktail of romance and danger—whether it's getting attacked by a yak or texting about taking metaphorical bullets for each other.

But to most others, Kennedy is a reckless conspiracy theorist whose appetite for danger will result in a sicker America.

How can such ferocious desire be attached to this man? Two memoirs by the women who love him offer some clues.

A friend of mine who is not fluent in English told me he spent the last night "sexing some hot babes." I had to avoid laughing in this poor man's face as I imagined him flipping them over to make an informed guess.

If there's one thing I'd plead with fantasy authors to imagine it's a world where the bigotry we know doesn't exist. Where whatever hatred that forms in the hearts of thinking beings is as alien to us as their wonders and mysteries. Do not make readers travel to new worlds only to carry old baggage.

There's a series I'm reading at the moment that has an isekai'ed trans woman as the protag and while I'm all for folks using fiction to explore complex experiences in their identities, let me tell you how strangely nice it is that if I wasn't told that in the first few chapters, I'd never know.

I like when non-native speakers write fantasy novels because the broader vocabulary sometimes creates funny mistakes. Example: Good miss, I think you meant "she willingly surrendered herself to his magic, trusting his control." If she had done it "willfully" this scene becomes a lot weirder. 🤣

For folks who don't cook like this but want to, I suggest that you think of things you cook and google "what can I do with leftover ..." Somebody has probably thought of good food you can make with any leftovers from a dish. Bones? Broths? Skins? Whatever. Aspire let *nothing* get thrown away.
I've split my crockpot rosemary chicken, potatoes and carrots into three containers: leftovers, a portion of the liquids to turn into a gravy, and a portion of the liquid to use as a broth for making rice in the rice cooker. The joy of strategic cooking is in how the end of one meal preps the next.

NextDoor is a trip. I legit see a post like "my landlord moved me into an illegal apartment and is now stealing my mail so I can't move but I don't want to file a police report because that would be so dramatic, anyone been thru this?"

Gurl wut. Walk me through your mindset. You listed 3 crimes.

Whenever fantasy writers write about farming, it becomes super obvious super fast how few of them understand anything about it. "And so the heroine decided to double her magical extra-strength fertilizers!"

Did you know that over-fertilizing will not only burn out your crops but poison the soil?

First, woof, that is a doozy of a recording and it definitely fills me with a rage to never buy Campbell's again...

Second, while I can't speak to the quality of their meat... this guy is a fool. They are *not* 3D printing their meat. I know this because they'd be the market leaders of it.

There's something magical about throwing raw ingredients and seasonings into a crockpot and then, hours later as you've gone on to other things in your day, coming back to a fully cooked and flavorful meal.
