“Seven fours,” Zhongli said placidly, with such equanimity that if he were to understand the nuances of the game, he was sure to destroy them all with ease.

“Liar,” Childe and Uncle Tian pointed out instead, because the venerable consultant just couldn’t figure it out, though at this point it really felt like he enjoyed not getting it, like the belligerent asshole he very much was, whenever no one was looking.

Childe did not kiss him when he laughed in defeat, and it was such a terrible show of self-control he promised himself a reward, once he got through work for the day.

“Will you be spending New Year’s in the Harbor, or up in the Village?” Uncle Tian asked, reshuffling their dice after he stashed away the token from Zhongli’s defeat.

“Mm, the Harbor, probably,” Childe replied, nudging Zhongli’s knee with his own under the table, but Zhongli nodded placidly, no objections on his end as he rolled the cup between his fingers, expectantly. “New Year isn’t really a notable holiday for my family, but Mr. Zhongli loves celebrating his birthday in the Harbor.”

“I do,” Zhongli agreed, humming as he shuffled his dice and peeked discretely at them. “Maybe next year my Goddaughter will be old enough to walk the market, and it’ll be worthwhile bringing everyone down to the Harbor. But not this year, no.”

“You must introduce us, when you do,” Uncle Tian said, grinning. “Yundan insists she’s a delight.”

“She is indeed a delightful creature,” Zhongli replied, eyes brightening. “Clever and willful and so dreadfully stubborn.”

“Almost like she’s been horribly spoiled by someone,” Childe pointed out and laughed when a very pointed knee collided mercilessly with his thigh. “Two threes.”

“Five threes,” Uncle Tian said, clearly entertained. “What is the point of children if not to relish in them? Speaking of…”
