“Have you forgotten what I am?” Dan Heng asks, quiet, guarded.

Alarm bells blare at full strength inside Caelus skull: that sounds almost approaching hurt.

“My friend?” Caelus asks, candid.

“No!” Dan Heng shoves the scroll into the side table and puts his face in his hands. “I mean, yes, but not that.”

“That’s the only bit that matters,” Caelus replies, bluntly sincere because that’s about the best way to handle Dan Heng’s… everything: focus on the certainties that hold everything else together.

“Caelus,” Dan Heng says, leaning over, elbows on his knees, back bent forward to stare at him intently.

“Dan Heng!” Caelus replies, eyebrows arched.

the fastest way to kill motivation is to make your identity depend on the outcome. it's called ego involvement. when failing becomes failing as a person, your brain starts avoiding the whole thing. not because you don't care, but because you care too much.

you don't need lower standards. you need less self-worth tangled up in your goals. the work gets easier when it's not about proving who you are.

Writing has always been a strength for CDPR, but we'll see.

And hey, even if they fuck it up royally, we will always have Witcher 3.

It's insane how good it looks and feels, a decade later. Still going strong!

That's the challenge for them, I think. Because a protagonist Ciri makes sense, after all the build up and story. But a Witcher!Ciri needs to be more than fem!Geralt.

It's a tough ask, and it's a tough ask they gave themselves. So hopefully they can stick the landing.

I'm not letting myself get super hyped about it, because I've found hype kills the experience. Nothing ever lives up to the hype and any failure is exacerbated by the hype.

So I'm looking forward to the Witcher 4, and hoping they'll stick the landing and deliver something good.

I'm intrigued. I like the idea of an older, more experienced Ciri. I like the implication from the trailer that we're doing Witcher work and we're sticking with impulsiveness fucks you over, in the trailer. The whole unexpected results thing.

But it's a trailer so far, and I haven't seen gameplay.
