Maybe try different ploidy levels, smdugeplot, or if you have enough compute k=55

"What do you mean I can't run this insanely inefficient program without interruption for 21 days?"

If the dot plot looks the same it's probably a long tandem duplicate, at least 3 copies. Check read coverage in this area also to see if it's real or possibly an assembly error

I'm no historian, but a deal for one country to extract natural resources from another country sounds a lot like colonialism

A short thread about how the VeRy EffIciEnT DOGE has affected me and my husband personally:

Indy was unlawfully fired. - February

Indy was rehired, placed on administrative leave, due to judges in California and NY recognizing what DOGE is doing is unlawful. - Mar

Most birds have a fight or flight response.

He forgot we’re flightless birds.

The penguin humor is really doing it for me lately, a lone bright spot

Rug hanging in the Airbnb I'm staying at. I call it "recurrent whole-genome followed by tandem duplication"
Rug hanging from the wall with flowers connected in what appears to be a phylogenetic tree. Colors of the flowers remind me of a gene tree showing a pattern of whole genome duplication followed by tandem duplication

I was slightly favoring the Chiefs for Sunday, then I remembered Harrison Butlicker existed. #FlyEaglesFly

Join us on Wednesday, February 5, at 11 AM PST for the next #PolyploidyWebinar! This month we have @cherrityg.bsky.social on apomixis and polyploidy in Malus and Christoph Rosche on herbarium specimens and invasive Centaurea! Sign up (if not already!) to get the zoom: www.barkerlab.net/polyweb
A flyer announcing the next polyploidy webinar on February 5, 2025, at 11 AM PST. Links to sign up for the zoom at barkerlab.net/polyweb. Featuring Charity Goeckeritz from the HudsonAlpha Institute on Genomics of triploid apples narrow the search for the genetic basis of apomixis in Malus, and Christoph Rosche from the University of Halle on Herbarium specimens reveal a cryptic invasion of polyploid Centuarea stoebe in Europe.

Downloaded the B73 genome for the first time, am I a Maize biologist yet? My dog thinks he's one at least

Made "Coconut Red Curry Sauce and Noodles" I saw on Worst Cooks in America. The reviews said it was a bit bland so I doubled the amount of red curry paste. Its also the first time I've cooked with tofu. Overall id give it a 7/10

Another year, another successful trip to #PAG32. Attended several talks that will affect the way I carry out my work for the better. Meeting old friends and making new ones also brings me joy. Though I had a lot of fun, I can't wait to see my dog again 😭. Until next year ✌️

Stop by the Bayer booth at #PAG32 and try to solve the Bayer puzzle hunt for a chance at some sweet botanical legos

Be sure to check out the "Application of Genetics and Genomics for Large-scale Breeding Programs" session organized by Samantha McConaughy and myself Monday at 12:50pm.

I'm excited to attend #PAG32 along with several Bayer Crop Science colleagues. Stop by our booth #318 to chat about Health for All, Hunger for None. I would love to chat about anything Eukaryotic genome assembly/annotation, gene regulation, and disease resistance.

Had enough doom scrolling for the day so I muted "T**mp" and "Zuc**rb**g" and "Me*a", now my discover feed only has 5 posts on it

It helps with data management a bit, eases pipelines that process a lot of genomes at once. Biologically makes zero sense though I'll agree with that

Agree with the 1st TD, but the goal post dunk is written into the rules because Jimmy Graham bent it once

Lunar halo tonight outside of Pittsburgh. Moonlight reflecting off of ice crystals in cirrus clouds (according to Google). Cool effect I would guess I've seen before but it feels like the first time.
Taken at night time, the bright moon centers the photograph surrounded by a lunar halo. The diameter of the halo is more than ten times that of the moon itself by my estimation. A pair of tree branches below rise from off frame giving the effect they're reaching towards the moon
