Pst it may -also- repell bugs but I’m not sure how actually effective it is using the historic components

I also think it’s interesting that so many rich white mansion owners in Charleston used this color. Did they choose it? Or was it chosen for them by their slaves? Did they know why?

I’ll have to watch that eventually, but I’m a scaredy cat baby

And yet again we are kindred spirits

It’s a cool color family! (Not my image). I think stuff like this that originated from natural materials and cultural significance is cool. Here’s some modern dupes.

Is anyone here interested in discounted holiday cards I'm discontinuing?

$10 for 5 cards (they normally sell for $5 each) +$5 if you want me to ship to you (US only).

DM if interested

Anyway, isn’t it a cool color? I feel like it’s beautiful on its own but maybe a cool thing to incorporate into a creepy artwork with some thought to its historical usage. (Also modern as people still paint their porch ceilings this color!)

I actually didn’t know about any of this growing up which I think is a real failing of the southern school system. But I’m trying to know more now.

People say this tradition actually comes through the Gullah population from Barbados. Historically it was made with lime (I heard?) which might barely repel a few bugs. I like to think it does repel evil spirits.

it’s creepy season, did you know about haint blue? I grew up in Charleston which has a lot of practices that came from the enslaved African population. A lot of people just accept these things and don’t know where it comes from. The blue porch ceiling is to fool ghosts to think it’s sky and move on.

Maybe you can schedule time to do creative things and just get back into it. Not everything has to be perfect or amazing

I basically don’t trust a supervisor until they do something off (in a good way). Like something goes wrong and they support me unlike others? Oh dang, it’s a real human! We found one and not a narcissist!

I feel like it’s extra for me because I’m a tall woman and I’m a “let’s get this done” personality which some people find intimidating. (Basically all of me is potentially threatening except that I was raised southern)

Yeah I feel that! That kind of boss is the worst

It’s rough but I have faith that you can make things you care about again, even if just for you or a small circle where you feel safe
