The APPR is the floor, not the ceiling.

The APPR does not relieve the airline from liability under the Montreal Convention, Article 19.

See Boyd v. WestJet, 2024 BCCRT 640:

Air Canada must obey the law and honour its commitment to reimburse passengers for their meals, accommodation, and out-of-pocket expenses incurred during the strike.

The response below disingenuously sidesteps liability for expenses under the Montreal Convention, Article 19.
BREAKING: Federal Court of Appeal rules in favour of passengers in interpreting "required for safety reasons" in the APPR.
AIR CANADA MISINFORMATION ALERT

The email below misrepresents passengers' rights to a rebooking under the APPR.

* "5 days" should read "48 hours"

* "same or lower cabin" should add "unless only higher class was available on the next available flight"

* delete "same origin"
We commend Air Canada for acknowledging its obligation to reimburse passengers for expenses they incurred for arranging for alternate transportation on their own

Adding a form for this purpose was a good move too:

BC Civil Resolutions Tribunal upholds right to recover prepaid but missed hotel costs under the Montreal Convention

This is an exemplary decision of good legal writing and sharp reasoning, and fairness to both sides.

MISINFORMATION ALERT:

Mr. Martin Firestone is helping Air Canada to spread disinformation about your rights

Kudos to CP24's reporter for correctly quoting the APPR to this insurance salesman who pretends to be a travel expert without real credentials
